Unhappy Farewell to Andre Norton

My one of my favorite writers was Andre Norton, who created the Witch World Series. She the first Sci-Fi author that I ever read, and is still up there with the top three on my list. (The others are Piers Anthony and Anne McCaffery) It has always been a private bit of pleasure that the three of them are such good friends.

Sadly, Ms Norton passed away Thursday, March 17th, One month and a day after her 93rd birthday. It was her wish to be cremated with a copy of both her first and last book. Her publishers rushed to get a copy of her last book off the presses for her to view, knowing that she had been sick for over a year now (THREE HANDS FOR SCORPIO to be released in April.).

She will be saddly missed by all!

I've only read the Elvenbane series w/ Mercedes Lackey, but I'll have to try some of her others. I know those three were good.

It is always sad when the world lost a great author, or artist.

Just found that Anne herself has written a few commemortaive words in regard to the passing of het friend Andre Norton (to be read on Anne's website):

"Andre Norton was a very dear friend and great mentor. She not only was the pioneer for women writing in science fiction and fantasy, she was also a kind-hearted and dedicated proponent for all those who followed her. It was she who said that I should have a white dragon and that it should be a sport -- and so "The White Dragon" was born. I know that I am not the only one who will miss her brilliant writing and her personal charm and grace." - Anne McCaffrey
