Smile Mike and Tania's 2009 UK Tour

Mike and Tania's calendar has their 2009 UK tour dates once again. Just in case there are any further problems (the dates did disappear from their site for a few days), here is a copy of their itinerary (as updated in an email send out by Mike and Tania on 12th May 2009:

Plus one school workshop:

If one of these places is near to you, their performance is well worth experiencing. And as Mike said in another thread, they are looking for other venues to fill in the gaps, and are willing to do house concerts. (From a selfish point of view, though, they're planning to visit us in Scotland during the 16-21 May gap, so I hope we can find some venues in "up north" during that period.)

(Is this a good enough advertisement Mike? )

If you go to the Windsor Hotel one you just might meet up with my sister and brother in law. They live nearby and I've sent them the details.

I presume you'll be taking along your copy of Sunset's Gold, or do you already have a signed version now?

Keep checking Mike and Tania's site in case anything changes or extra dates appear - it also has links to some of the venues. I'll try to keep my post updated as well.

Shameless bump - only 11 days to go!

Mike and Tania now also have a school workshop in Huddersfield. I have updated my first post. Plenty of other dates still going free.

Another update. Mike and Tania just sent out the following message in an email:

Quote:
Seems like only a few months ago we were driving down the motorways - car stuffed to overflowing with instruments, CDs and sound gear - to play at festivals, clubs and arts centres all around Britain. But that was last summer, and already we're on our way back. We hope you'll be able to make it out to one of these shows. But if they're all too far away from you, we hope you'll pass this schedule on to anybody you know who might be interested in joining us for a fun evening of mixed-up, multi-instrumental, cross-cultural music and song.
I have used the schedule they sent to update my first post.

Hmmm. Am I allowed to make three consecutive posts to the same thread?

Not only am I hoping to get to the Welsh concert: I've just gone and bought a (small) hammered dulcimer.

Ye gods, man! You go for it. Nice to know that you have such faith in your manual dexterity. I tend to watch Tania, applaud madly, and go away thinking 'how can a human being MOVE that fast?'

Make You All Jealous Moment - the best perk of having Tania and Mike visit is that we get to visit with them! The next best perk is that we get to sit around listening to the two of them rehearsing. Now I have the tiniest inkling of what it must have been like to be royalty with musicians in-house! Sigh. Lordy, they're good...

That sound like it would fit eminently on a court in Kolmar...
Question is, can one (or two) make a cameo in a book, too?

And yes, your highness, you may consider yourself and Steven observed jealously by this lowly servant

That makes me think about a CD with Music from Kolmar!

T & M already appear as buskers in Eann's 'Godmother'.

Tania was just saying before they had to travel on that the *second* time she appeared in a Seattle coffee house as a pro singer, someone came up to her and said 'Are you THE Tania Opland, from the Elizabeth Ann Scarborough books?"

as far as I remember Eann only refered to her as 'Tania' (and called Mike 'Mark': unless that was a misprint)

It was great having Mike and Tania over to stay for a few days. Alas, they had to leave today for the Black Swan in York to continue their tour. As Lanen said, we were both privileged to be able to listen to them practise and enjoy the delights of live music wafting through the house (hmm, no hammer dulcimer smiley).

Mike and Tania also came to Lanen's sweet adelines chorus rehearsal in Dollar on Wednesday evening, joined in some of the singing and then gave us all an impromptu concert during the rehearsal break. I took some pictures:

They played three numbers and left everyone wanting more. I predict they'll be back to Dollar next year for a full concert booking. It's good to introduce them to new folk and widen their audience.

Over to you now P'ter. I hope you have a great time when you go and see them.

Well I made it to Llantrisant where I was greeted by this poster ...

Later on they duly turned up and performed ...

They included Eann's 'You picked a fine time ...' and a more traditional selkie song. Among the club performers taking the floor was one Mike Parsons who did a funny parody on a modern hymn (posted in the Exhibition Hall).

I'll post some landscapy type photos of the trip in the appropriate place.

P'ter, my sister and brother in law were at that concert. You might have bumped into them - they helped Mike and Tania carry their instruments back to the car. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Steve: I think that's your sister's curly mop and black jumper on the left. I saw them come in but didn't get to talk to them till afterwards (when I too was helping 'roady')
