Cheryl: years ago I was on the summit of Mt Snowdon in March and the chain link fence looked like a honeycomb with about three inches of ice buiilt onto the east side of the wires.

I also saw a completely circular rainbow: same place, different day.

Cilla, the story behind the desktop issimple. The people that developed the virtual surroundings for your computer, the people that developed the Apple computers, were opposed to what IBM was doing (working with dark screens and having people type code) and thus started creating a virtual office.

They though: now what would be an easy way for people to grasp things intuitively? And they came up with what they described as the desktop, complete with littel waist paper basket and such. To be able to move around on this virtual desktop (you couldn't very well type commands into it like with the DOS operating system) they came up with the Mouse -- which wasn't a real mouse either and didn't even have a mouse shape or ounded corners at the time The also created (virtual) folders, to place files in etc.
Later the IBM/Microsoft people also developed something like it (Windows) and virtually all the same names were used that were already dedicate to options, functions, material and icons.

That, in short, is the story behind the (virtual) desktop.

I'm a bit worried about my predeliction for black and white- although it might be that the images are from pre-colour tv!
This on's the Quatermass Experiment titles from the original BBC live version from 1953- which I have on DVD and love! BBC accents and all!
