Default Need help finding a movie?

Hey everyone!!

Iím hoping to complete my Disney, Hayao Miyazaki collection of movies with 'My Neighbor Totoro' this holiday season. It appears when the new movie, Ponyo came out this summer parents went crazy for all his other movies and now My Neighbor Totoro is no longer available new. When I inquired from Disney I was told they have no idea if it will be released again.

Over the past couple months Iíve been searching for a copy of this movieÖ at this point it doesnít matter to me whether itís new or used as long as its in good condition. As many of us know when something is rare the price sky rockets, the cheapest Iíve found this movie in good condition is around $90. Sadly people are selling scratched copies and even ones missing a disc for a starting price of $60.

As much as Iíd like this move I cannot justify spending more than $30 for it with other expenses I currently have. This is why Iím reaching out to the MoM community. Iím willing to pay for the cost of the movie + shipping if someone can find it at a store local to you. Iíve posted a picture below of the version Iím looking for. Just to clear up any confusion nowÖ you will find the Fox Entertainment version of this movie at a cheap price, however it was not made correctly and isnít what Iím looking for.

Please send me a PM or post on here if youíve found the movie. Thanks!!

Hi Unicorntig,

I just love my neighbor Totoro! And the other ones in that series

I can get it for you in Japanese and Danish for DKK 99,00 plus transport, but I guess that you wish it in English

I found that there is some kind of import stop, i.e. EEC does not want us to import US goods including DVDs.

I hope that you find a way!

The Rowan is my favourite!

"The name rowan is believed to derive from the Norse runa - "a charm". It was often planted outside houses to ward off witches. On May Day a spray of rowan leaves was hung over doors to repel evil, and wells dressed with rowan to keep witches away. The rowan, or mountain ash, is found commonly in Scotland, sometimes clinging to a rock face."

You probably wouldn't be able to play the DVD's anyway, Nina: wrong region code.

I've seen this, unicortig, but the regular sale price here (of an imported copy) is between 25 and 27 euro = $37.50 - $40 ex postage. That's regular price! So I can't help you.

Thanks anyways Hans!!

I'm hoping someone here in the US is able to find a copy, because your right between the exchange rate and postage, the cost of getting a DVD from Europe well exceeds my spending limit. And while that limit is a little flexible I have to be realistic and spending more than $40 (which here at the most used to cost $30) is excessive for one DVD.

I saw one on Amazon.com for about $67.90, but I'd have to get a ride to the post office and explain why I'm sending a package to NY. Sorry.

Junior so loves getting those movies. We found "Howl's moving castle" and watched it about 4-5 times since we brought it. Same here, unable to send to you because we're region 4 and you're region 1, I think.

That one has been up there for a while... and also unfortunately way past my budget. Most of the ones currently listed on amazon and eBay cost $63+.

Since this isnít a book Iíve decided I cannot justify spending more than around $30-35, especially if Iím also paying for shipping. Thanks anyways though!!

I love 'Howl's Moving Castle'! Miyazaki has become one of my favorite directors. I've loved all the movies he's done that I've seen so far. My personal favorite is 'Castle in the Sky'.

I too saw a couple of region 4 DVD's available on eBay... but as you and Hans have pointed out those DVD's wouldnít play on the players over here. Thanks anyways!!

What got us into it was "Spirited Away" - that was a grouse movie to watch!

Grouse? Never heard a movie described as a bird. Or did it have grouse in it?

I just checked and I think you are seeing the Fox Entertainment version of the movie. They didnt obtain all the rights to the film and because of that it was done poorly.

Just in case I'm missing it, would you mind sending me the link you found it on?

That's opposite of how I'd use the word; here to grouse is to complain or grumble, definitely not a cool thing.

I love Miyazaki's movies! I don't have any, I get them through Netflix. I'll keep my eyes open for you! Some movie rents have been closing b/c of Netflix, red box, etc so maybe I'll luck upon it!

We've got that as well. It sort of depends on where one says it, I guess. And sometimes, things get lost in translation. I know 2 Philippinos and an Indian who all had to learn English as a second language and they still get things mixed up with their words and meanings. Often I'll say something and then have to explain myself because they're not sure what I meant exactly.

*Other then being used to describe a type of fowl, often used as an adjective, meaning excellent (Australian/New Zealand slang) or verb = to complain or grumble (American definition). Had to look it up so that I'm not having one of my goofy moments No wonder people describe the English language as being one of the hardest to learn By the way Cheryl, here's the Aussie slang dictionary and you'll wonder how I've managed to come up with some really dodgy words :

Thanks anyways Priscilla!!

I'm sure a copy will turn up at some point that I can afford to buy, lol. Probably after the Holidays when the rush to get everyone's favorite movies ends.
