Default Now "the French" have really gone crazy...

You've heard me complain and rant about those silly Germans and French who seem to overprice some of "their" Pern titles so much. Well, the French (to be totally honest and correct it is a French speaking Belgian this time) have managed to take this to new heights

A copy of Masterharper, a regular trade paperback, is currently up for sale on eBay as a "buy it now" for 219 euro. That is $273 or GBP 185.

That sounds just plain ridiculous to me! I haven't paid nearly that much for any of the special signed hardbacks I've got (granted, I've only bought a couple things, but still. . .)

I really don't know. I do know that the vastly overpriced German mass market paperback titles (Renegades and Dolphins) do sell for sometimes around $100

Somebody else is selling the same French edition for E300!

Has anybody come across the site called 'Dragon Lovers Campaign'?

That's not a bad price for a signed 1st edition (Del Rey) actually. I've seen them ask closer to $1000 for those. Tho $599 is high too, don't get me wrong.

I will have to agree with Becky, on this one Peter...I have also seen this particular book go for far more, when its signed and in fine over all condition. Thankfully mine didn't come close to that price..but then again its not in the best of condition...fair, but not fine.

Ah... but do you have seen them SELL for $1000. The ones that are priced in that range seem to have been on eBay forever and I haven't seen Barry Levin's inventory change much over the last few years...

Thing is, if you wait long enough maybe you might get someone stupid enough to pay $600-$1000 but there aren't many of them

I'm just glad I got my copies for around $50 each back around 1999 and got them signed by Anne at her SF Hall of Fame induction. That makes them even more special to me! Tho I felt I was paying a lot for them at the time.

Hans...I do believe I saw one go for a bit higher than what Peter stated, but that was a couple of years back...when things seemed to be selling for quite a bit more than they seem to be selling for now.

How about this one, and it's not even Anne!

Quote:
The Higher Education Manager's Handbook: Peter McCaffery. £111.25:
The description reads:

Age Level: Baby/Nursery School; Subject: Early Readers
There are two copies of this for sale (the other one somewhat cheaper) and they both have the same description.

Since when did Nursery School count as higher education?

Knowing a bit of history, I should think there were a large number of renegades in Perth (both of them)

Oookaaaayyy. Why do they have books so outlandishly priced? Do they WANT their citizens to end up as coutch potatos and stupid???? With prices like that, they won't read but will run to the idiot machine.

Books where I am run $8 USD paperback and $25 USD hardbacks(depending on publisher). Used books can be much cheaper. I've found some MAC for $1 -4 USD.

Anyone looking for US titles? I've found them at my local used book store and flea markets.

Sorry, T'mynn...but you will have to look around like we all have had to do, to find what you are looking for at a price you can pay...its the way the collection game is played...

No T'mynn, I don't know why they price so high. Most of the German overpriced paperbacks are sold, so for those I know why people ask so much money (because there are others who are paying them ).

I d0 know these highly priced paperbacks are (of course) more rare then their older counterparts in the series but they are not that rare... But as people pay up, ike the Germans do, I've seen German Renegades and Dolphins sell for around $100 fir a regular paperback, sellers will sell then for those prices. It's the market.
With the French and US ardbacks however... if they are priced in the hundreds they usually will keep reappearing on eBay.

Thank you Hans. it makes sense. They price as high as the market will bear even if it is ridculous.

I agree with youKater, it IS far too much. I pay that amount or an entire series collection, never one book unless it is a portion of the geuine Dead Sea Scroll, or an actual Pernese archieve skin.;-)
