Geishagirl!
As for books, I recommend trying the following: 1) ordering via your local bookstore; 2) directly contacting the publisher themselves, and ordering via the mail; or 3) for oop items, going to a site like abebooand using the internet or the mail to order from booksellers. I use a combination of all three. |

Do you own the (Pern or any other Anne) books in French, too? So we may ask questions about those if need be?

sorry.... I thought it was the same in english version.
the numbers represents the order on the cycle. Example for Pern : 1 is Dragonflight, 2 Dragonquest, etc... see here : www.noosfere.com/heberg/fbeurg/mccaffre.htm ![]() |

I understood the number Kireseth. Lost them all eh?
![]() I have the complete Pern Series in French (Pocket) except for L'aube des dragons (Dragonsdawn) and the books published after La chute des fils (The Chronicles of Pern : First Fall). I don't collect Anne's other books/series in other languages than Dutch and American and English editions but I do have some, not in French though. With Partner you mean the Ship (Brain and Brawn) Series, right?

GeishaGirl!
A lot of my knowledge comes from either experience, or from paying attention to people. I learnt quite a bit when I studied to be a library technician, for example. If you can't wait until you can buy a volume, or you can't find a volume to buy, you can still attempt to read it. If your library hasn't got the volume you want, ask about inter-library loan: that's where the library gets the volume you want, usually with fees attached, from another library, so that you can use it. I used ILL to borrow a book from America once! ciao! P |

With Australia, and maybe for the US, there is no added charge if the book is from the same state's state library or public libraries. If it comes from another sort of library, or another state or territory, you have to pay extra.

I've Vacationed in Big Cities Far from where I live and found Anne McCaffrey books and bought as many as I could, but it only lasted me a week or so. I'm a really fast reader so one unread book only last me a day when I'm able to read it consecutively. But I do like reading the same book over and over. I find that I pick things out that I didn't catch the first, second and even third time. It was easier where I grew up, it was much more cultured. But my father moved our family when I was sixteen. But no regrets, this is where I met my husband and had my children. Besides there is much more undiscovered country where I am now, much beauty!

Your English is better than my French which is non existant.
I'm from Wisconsin and live with a house hold of dogs. I do Rat Terrier Rescue--take in unwanted Rat Terriers and find homes for them. Along with the bRats I have 2 Rottweilers, who are henpecked by the terriers and 1 German Shepherd. I have a hubby but unfortunatly he doesn't like to read--just watch basketball on TV. |

Welcome aboard! I've never heard of rat terriers before, but I like the little puppy you have below your name. My family's last dog was a female Irish setter; that was almost 20 years ago now. At least your SO doesn't hog all the Anne books! ciao! |

Rat Terriers can look like Jack Russell Terriers. Only they are usually calmer than Jacks. |

Hi There,
![]() My name is Cheryl and I live in sunny Llandudno, Wales, UK (well it is some of the time) with my husband Farouk and three children. I work part time in an Accountants office and care for my husband who is disabled/sick. I am also studying with the Open University. Aiming, I hope eventually, for a degree in Computing and Information Technology. In my spare time I read a lot, anything to do with Sci Fi / fantasy. My favourite author is Anne, of course, but as I have now read all her books, at least once I have started reading books from the following: Julia Gray, Katherine Kerr, David Gemmell and David Eddings I am also a huge fan of Star Trek plus all the spin offs, StarGate and most of the Cult TV series in fact anything to do with Science Fiction (my kids & husband think I’m mad) ![]() ![]() I also love all kinds of music, playing games on the Internet, eating out, going to the local theatre and the cinema. Regards Chez |

G'day, Chez!
Nice to see a new face drop by and say g'day! As you can guess from my handle, I write some of the poetry hereabouts. You could say I'm the board's poet laureate... ![]() Anyway, I hope you'll have fun here. Sit back, relax, get stuck into some threads, but most of all enjoy yourself, and feel free to party like it's the 9th Pass! |

Thanks for the welcome, everyone.
![]() Its a small world, use to live in Aberystwyth, for about ten years until I was 22 when I moved to Rochdale, Manchester to be with my boyfriend (now my husband). Didn't like Aber, preferred this area having spent my early childhood living in Prestatyn. That's why when my husband lost his job we moved down here. That and because most of my family live here. Did you go on the tram up the Orme then Edith? Llandudno can be very dreary to when not sunny and it's just poured down all morning, bucket loads. yuk!! ![]() |

Small world indeed!
I used to live in Rhyl and work in Prestatyn. A kids home opposite Kwiksave supermarket!...Park House Childrens Home, to give it its full title. Met the future Mrs Bagpuss there and married all within 4 months......23 years later, she's still daft enough to put up with me! ![]() |

Aber can be seriously dreary at times! especially in bad weather
went by car up the Great Orme- we were going to an event at the mines, but i can remember seeing the tram- will have to go there again sometime. been to Rhyll once too-to the swimming pool with the ATC for a wing swimming thing- needless to say I was hopeless!rained all morning here too-followed by glorious sunshine! |

Mum went to uni for 4 terms at Bangor which she said were 3 terms to many!
thats the thing with Wales-its absolutely beutiful at times! Aber when its sunny's quite nice, the mountains and bits of coastline are georgeous- the Cambrian mountains-the ones between Ceredigion and Powys are sooo beutiful at times- think of a mini alps in some ways, then on the other hand it can be so ugly and depressed! I haven't been on the Valley of Reidholl (Can't spell-Devil's bridge) yet- I mean to though. Nick saw one of the trains this morning! been on the one near lake Bala though and the Llanfair to Welshpool light railway! |

Well this seems like the place to introduce myself so I suppose I will. I'm Sylvie, I'm a student, and I'm an Anne fan. Or is it a McCaffreak? What do a group of us call ourselves anyway? The Star Trek people are trekkies and fans of Jane Eyre the Musical are Eyreheads, so don't we deserve such a title? Anyway, my first McCaffrey was Dragonsong which I read in freshman year of high school. I only recently (as recently as last summer) decided to delve further into Pern, and after that delving I went onto Brainship and the rest is history. I'm a voracious reader, love dogs (my big dog's my dragon and the little one's my fire-lizard), music, friends, and spending way too much time online. Of course none of my friends are McCaffrey fans so I guess I'll just discuss my obsession with you guys.
Oh yeah, my username. I'm involved in a Pern RPG called Moon Lake weyr. (the address is in my profile if anyone's interested, new members always welcome) and we're non-cannon, meaning that we follow the basic Pern rules, mostly. We're set in an alternate 10th Pass and our dragons and fire-lizards come in many colors aside from the basic five. My first charrie on there, Solanna, Impressed orange Garanth, and that's how my username was born. And I'll shut up now. Nice meeting you all. |
