Has anyone else ever read this novel? It's a one-off, not part of a series, which is unfortunate for me because the world was so convincingly written. It has always reminded me a little of Anne's writing, perhaps because the major plot point is a telepathic bond between a human and a giant fish/whale creature called a harsel, which provides human transport on a largely oceanic world.

I will say that it made me cry, though.
