I'm a fan of the books, I'm looking forward to the movie (though I don't know when I'll get to it...). I really should try some of his other works, but I haven't gotten around to them yet....

I'm not that interested in the movie. For one thing, it's by Disney, and they're flogging it as an epic (which it isn't) and through Macca's (which I don't eat), not to mention countless contests, tie-in promotions, toys, etc. just like any blockbuster.

I am currently re-reading The Narnia stories as the movie release reminded me that I hadn't read them as recently as I'd thought - and I am pleased to say that I am enjoying them a lot!!
I did go and see the film recently. Whilst there was quite a lot of "Aslan as Jeezy Chreezy" references, and there was a whole lot of glamour and pish along with it, it wasn't bad. No, not epic at all, and there wasn't the sense of wonder and wanting to explore that world (such as I found with Peter Jackson's telling of Middle Earth), but not bad. I was pleased to find that the overt Aslan as Jeezy Chreezy references seem to get a bit less in the later books of Narnia than in Lion, Witch & Wardrobe. (Incidentally, I don't mean to be flippant or disrespectful with my use of Jeezy Chreezy as opposed to Jesus Christ - but if anyone out there has heard of Eddie Izzard he does a joke about God taking his son's name in vain - v funny.) |

Gidget, The Chronicles of Narnia are meant to be representing Bible stories e.g. When Aslan dies so that Edmund wouldn't.
Just a question, but whose your favourite character? I like Edmund (The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, The Horse and his Boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Last Battle) and Eustace (The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, The last Battle) I like Bad guys who turn good. (Plus Eustace was turned into a dragon) |

I'll wait for the movie to come out on DVD. Besides it's like the fourth ver. of the lion the witch... They all start with the 2nd book. I hate when film makers skip books that belong together.

I dunno if the Magician's nephew would make a good film-as far as directors are concerned- since the hero accidently lets forth all the evil! they don't like that! I mean CHILDREN not being little angels? (is there a sarcastic smily, or a vomiting one for that matter!)

They did the movie very well - only two scenes that were off. It was really beautiful.

I still don't particularly want to see it- from whart I can tell they've missed all the point about Edmund's betrayal and they've stuck it in the wrong type of countryside!

Well, the winter forest was exactly what I pictured, the spring camp is pretty much what I pictured, and the summer valley and battle are like what I pictured only more so.

Is that BBC or Disney? BBC have made The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe and the silver chair (and probably more that I have not found)

probably, if they want to get the ages right, Voyage of the Dawn treader, the silver chair, then either the Last Battle (which as the Pevenseys are significantly older in that it might wait till last) Or the Magician's nephew and the horse and his boy. Which as the Pevenseys are older in Narnia terms then, they grow up before arriving back through the wardrobe, they can leave, and the magician's nephew has none of the child characters from the other book.

I saw the first one of those... it was actually boring.
There is a strong Christian undercurrent in the books, but I mostly don't notice it as such - although I felt like an idiot when I first realized that Aslan taking the place of another, an innocent dying for another's sins and then "death working backward" - was supposed to be like Jesus. |

Don't feel like an idiot Brenda.
I have decided I'm going to try to find all the Bible stories the books are based on. I have: Magicians Nephew~Genesis LWW~Jesus Last Battle~Revelation Horse and his Boy~Exodus? I had one for Dawn Treader too.. but have lost it |

I'm not sure... but I think my favorite moment in all of the books is the description of Reepicheep going over that last wave at the edge of the world, and the mountains beyond...

I like the Narnia series as well. I have a comic book for the first one as well, it’s very nicely drawn. I like the movies, although some things they put in are not ok (what’s up with the all ’’Susan and Caspian are in love’’ bit?! Where the heck is that in the books?!). The first one is very well done, though, no complains there.

I was fairly disgusted with the second movie, since rather than it being about supporting the rightful king in his fight, it became all about Peter whining about how HE'S supposed to be king! and Susan iz In Luv!!!
There were other things wrong with it, but that's what I disliked the most!

Folks, were/are you aware that C.S. Lewis was famous for being a Christian apologist? That doesn't mean apologising for Christianity, but rather explaining it in everyday terms to make it more immediate for people, to link it more closely to real life and the everyday struggle. Of course his Narnia books are Christian allegories. Some are more obvious than others, that's all.
