Hi MoMs!

Or should it be MoMsers? 8-)

After a few days of lurking around here i finally signed up.

So, ok, what to say about me...

I'm 39, a software engineer[0], living in Duisburg and Rüsselsheim (Germany) and a fan of AMC, the Dragonriders series especially, since i first read "Die Welt der Drachen" about 2 decades ago.
I started collecting Annes books only a year ago, so there's still much to do. E.g., getting my hands on an affordable issue of "Die Delphine von Pern". 8-)

OK, that's it. See you in the forums!

[0] And as such _really_ impressed by the brutal lengths of StevenB's shifts in Chile. Maybe my not so challenging job's not that bad after all... 8-)

Dernok- I'm not actually Dutch although I live in The Netherlands (although currently I'm in Belgium) and my Dutch is extremely poor (I was so pleased with myself with remembering some grammar the other day- until I realised that I didn't know what the words meant) so I can't really talk about spelling and grammar (and my accent is so, so suffering here- they pronounce the words differently) but thanks all the same!

Hi edith

I didn't really expected to be "taught" dutch here. Just wanted to bragg a little bit about my really limited knowledge of the dutch language and give kudos to a country and its inhabitants i learned to like.

Well, as long as it doesn't come to discussing football...

Your limited knowledge of the Dutch language is probably a lot, lot better than my limited knowledge. When I get back from Belgium (only 13 days left here thank goodness) I'm going to look into starting a proper course. I might have some time in the spring.
Though, if I remember correctly, Hans did try to teach people here some Dutch a few years back .
I agree with liking The Netherlands and its people. I find it funny that I am currently homesick, not for Wales (where I'm from) but for Delft.

You won't hear me discussing football.

Did i sign up to the correct forum? Lots of Trekkies around here. 8-)

Let me ask you a question : In a silly OT discussion years ago i read that Roddenberry hat germans, or rather german stereotypes, in mind when he made up the Cardassians.
If that really was the case then why is there Romulan Ale and Cardassians have, ahm, "nothing special"?

And another questions : Is that "discussion" too off topic, here?

Looking at you sig i would guess that you work as some sort of chemist and if the labor market for chemists hasn't dramatically changed in the last few years you're propably only a few steps away from winning a nobel prize if you work "overseas" and have to travel around.

Your're not - coincidentally - working on some "stone" that turns flammable when chewed?

Me? Typical

I've never been bothered about football- I prefer rugby or cricket which at least have some genuine action in them.

I had my interview for my current PhD position right in the middle of Euro 2008 in the bit where the Dutch were still winning things so I know how loud it can get when they win anything.

I haven't read many books yet in English, in fact I'm still busy with the first I bought (being the 1971 edition of The Harpers Hall). Owning about 10 English and 6 Dutch books (the Dutch books I've already read), and looking for the rest. About one a month or so...

Well, in short terms, that's me. I already want to apologise for my bad English, as I now I might use too much Dutch grammer in it...

You'll see me around now and then.
Well, it's been a while since my last visit but I'm back on the web. I want to apoligize for being absent for nearly 8 months after being just new to MoM.

We have now a beaufitul baby-boy, born June 15th (for the Dutch: dat was op vaderdag ) and he's called Ivan. Since there were some problems with his neck, it took me too much time to be with him, so I didn't attend most of the fora I'm active at. But everything's fine now and having a young child is wonderful! (He's asleep )

Anyway, I've read DragonDawn already, and almost finished Chonicals FF. Wonderful book. Next will be DragonsEye (i.e. 'DE'?)

I try to be more active but since there's been written a lot, I have to cope with a lot of reading to see where I can fit in with my comments...

Welcome back Evdelft! Sorry about the troubles with the baby. That can be terrifying. I'm so glad he's ok now. As a practicing Grandma I take matters concerning babies very much to heart!
