Exclamation Sixth Pern Portrait a double take!

The sixth Pern portrait for the Pern Museum & Archives by Linda Eicher, who has "Pern in her fingers as well as on her mind", is a double portrait of the eminent bio-geneticist Kitti Ping Yung, the only human ever trained in the Great Beltrae Halls of the Eridanis, and her granddaughter (some say daughter, which is rather unlikely) Wind Blossom.

And that is not all...

As is traditional by now Linda includes a wonderful scene, this time if features the massive microbiological unit in the special science lab at Landing where the early stages of that all important project: to give dragons to Pern to help fight the mindless menace of Thread, took place. And in that scene two lesser, but not less loved, characters are depicted together with Kitti and Wind Blossom: zoologist Pol Nietro and his wife and biologist Bay Harkenon, the couple responsible (under the guidance of Kitti Ping) for giving mentasynth to the firelizards.

A truely great addition to the People and Scenes of Pern Gallery by Linda Eicher!

Do click on the picture part below to go explore this new work of art in the Pern Encyclopedia.

You can almost sense the intensity of the scientists' emotions, and how desperate their work is. It's so clear and detailed, it's almost like a photograph. Lovely!

Unfortunately, I can't get into the site to see it.

Gah! And I'm navigating other sites fine. But www.pern.nl is not found, the NKT is taking forever to load, and I'm starting to think Thread has eaten the Internet lines.

Absolutely awesome!! I had imagined something smaller to hold the incubating eggs, and a little reminiscent of the contraption at bakeries that holds several trays of bread!! But I really like your take on the incubator!! Much more imaginative!!

They might use her work for concept art, but the posters would probably have images from the actual movie.

For some reason I picture Wind Blossom with small round glasses ..... but I wouldn't be able to tell you if that's just me or from the text!! LOL

Thank you all so very much for your lovely and interesting compliments...
@Deb...I always invisioned the eggs as being bigger by the time they were placed onto the sand.

@Gidge...I don't ever remember any glasses being mentioned with Kitti. In my mind since she came from an advanced civilization...there wouldn't have been any need for them...as they would have developed curitive operations by then for any and all eyesight problems.

When it comes to any art work for the movie...there are certainly plenty of professionals illustrators to handle all of those needs.

They might not have bothered with surgery for something as slight as what reading glasses would fix. Also, we know Kitti Ping liked her traditional rituals - maybe she preferred the more archaic glasses.

Sorry Brenda...but I never found anywhere in the Dragondawn where glasses are mentioned for Kitti.
I just don't see people having to be bothered with glasses at that time in the future...especially in a future where genetics are so easily manipualted or repaired.

Considering we already have laser surgery to correct for basic vision issues, it does seem perfectly plausible that glasses wouldn't be used by the time of Pern's colonization.

Cheryln, Sorry but until you click on it..you won't be able to see the whole background scene. Time spent in the Pern Musem is always enjoyabel and well spent...but I do understand...you can loose track of time when your in there. It's like Disneyland for Pern lovers.

Thank you Amaterasu and Cynth....glad you enjoyed it.
