Default Hmmm...

A couple of years ago, my grandmother gave me several of her copies of Pern novels. I just recently took a closer look at them, and it seems I have a first edition printing of Dragonflight, from 1968. The dragon on the cover is so different from what I'm used to seeing that it was almost a shock to look at it. It's amazing how much the cover art has changed since then.

I also discovered that among the 40 or so Andre Norton books I was given by my father as several first edition prints, as well. Go figure. And here I thought I was going to get a bunch of mass-market reprints when he told me he was bringing me a box of books.

Holy Cow...what a fantastic surprise. You need to hold on to those special books and pass them on to your own children when the time comes...bringing up another generation of Anne McCaffrey/Andre Norton readers.

Very nice! How exciting. Do you have the Rapp & Whiting or Walker & Co. Dragonflight?

I'll have to look at that when I get home. Not sure off the top of my head. For a book that is over 40 years old, and has been read several times, it is in pretty good condition.

Wow, that's great! Something similar happened to me once (just with the Narnia comic book). Surprise, surprise!

Samsara, I have the original 1968 Ballentine paperback. Not one of the 1969 hardbacks. It has a tiny bit of spine creasing, a little damage to the front cover - it looks like it rested against something with tape on it and has a faint residue adhered to it - and some shelf wear on the corners. All the pages seem to be pristine. I'm surious who did hte cover art, because no credit is given in the book.

The cover art for the original first (paperback) edition of Dragonflight was done by Robert Foster.

Nice! I think I've got that one too, but I have to check when I get home.

I've seem them offered on eBay for anywhere between a few dollars to $25/30 (actually seen them for (far) more, but that's ridiculous)

There are, of course, various factors influencing the price, the most important are state, printing and signed or not.

If I ever make it to a convention that Anne is attending, I'll try to get it signed, for the complete experience. No plans to sell it. It's a treasure from my grandmother, after all!

Thanks Hans

I recently obtained a 1st edition paperback copy of Dragonflight and due to financial situation, I will most likely need to sell it. I was curious as to how much it would be worth.

If that's the case, Sarahlin13, may I be the one to "bags it first"? After all you helped me find one book, I'd like to give another a good home too .... PM me and let me know what you've decided.
