Default This Month's Haul

Wow, I have been a busy little collector this month!

After taking stock of the many beautiful things I got my hands on recently, I have decided I can't not share them with you all.... So here goes.....

Firstly, I recieved a couple of weeks ago a box load of goodies that I got from Hans! I can't tell you all how excited I was to get these things. And Hans, I know I've thanked you a hundred times already, but geez... I love this stuff, so thank you again from the bottom of my heart!

Hmm.. forgot to add The Dolphin's Bell into the group when I took the photo. My favourites out of this lot would have to be the Signed MH Songbook & 1st ed CD, & the signed SG CD.

But wait! Theres more!!
Ok... just realised there is a lot of stuff to show you... I will have to do this in a couple of posts...

Right, now for some things that Hans has not already seen!

I was very, very excited by this purchase.. I managed to get ARC's for Dragonsblood & Dragon's Fire. I have wanted Pern ARC's for my collection ever since I heard such things existed.. I won this ebay auction at USD $5.50 per book, so I was overjoyed by the price!

Also from ebay, I got for about AUD $10 a signed 1st Ed HC of Nerilka's Story/The Coelura. Another great price, and I was the only bidder!

And the signature:

The seller bought this in a 2nd bookstore in the UK. It was already signed, so I'm not sure where or when Anne signed it. Oh well, I can live with that!

Only one more post to follow!

Hehe... I said there were a few things! This is the last one...

I have wanted the Mayfair board game for years now. It's the only other collectable I knew about (besides the Pern companion books) before I found MoM. I was always put off by the prices, mostly because the games I spotted were not in good condition. So I was very happy when I found a copy on ebay, complete & unpunched, in good condition for USD $10!!! Actually, I won the auction at about $18, but the seller refunded some money (without me asking him) because of a small tear he found in the corner of the box. I was happy to pay $18, so I was even happier that I only ended up paying $10.

Well thats it guys! I hope you all dont mind how big this thread is, I must admit its bigger then I thought it would be! But if I don't share my treasures with you, there is no one else at home who 'gets it'. Hubby is great about letting me blab about these things, but at the end of the day he doesn't really give a ......

All are great additions but the ARC's, the signed UK Nerika and the unpunched Mayfair Game are fabulous finds for their respective prices. You have done very well, Sam. My compliments I'm glad you share my opinion on the Sunset's Gold CD which I find much more enjoyable and easy to listen to than the Masterharper CD (wasn't that also in the box I sent you?). As you so rightfully said that was only just because these are "Menolly's songs and tunes" and those are supposed to be easy to listen to!

Not to be outdone I'll tell you how I came by my signed UK Nerilka. I actually found several McCaffrey books in a second hand bookshop at the entrance of Usher Gardens, which I visited with my wife when we last visisted Anne herself at Dragonhold. Among them the UK hardback Nerilka/Coelura which I actuallly didn't have yet at the time.

When I showed Anne my finds at the end of the afternoon, when we were back at Dragonhold and sitting at the kitchen table, she took the books out of my hands and signed them right away, there at the kitchen table, adding dryly: "Now they're even more special finds"

Hans, that is a wonderful story how you got your copy signed! I can't help but daydream of something like that happening to me...

And yes, the MH CD was in the box! Have another look at the photo, it's in there, and I even said it was one of my favourite items that I got from you!

Even though P'ter clearly said he was only joking and I don't think it bothers you I'll still say, also for the benefit of others: don't let this bother you. We all know that this can happen. Though some won't bid if they know a fellow collector is bidding, others have stated clearly that they will. Both ways are accepted.

This is also the reason we virtually never say on what we're bidding, that and not telling everybody that there's something interesting to have, of course AND the reason we almost never post about nice things turning up even if we are not bidding

Ah, the voice of wisdom....

I know P'ter was only joking when he said he was irked. I definately don't think he is truly mad at me. I hope that my response did not sound as if I did think he was...

I am not really bothered by this. I suppose its more the fact that it's the first time it's happened to me ... It was bound to happen eventually, especially now that I'm making a concerted effort to get my hot little hands on as much as I can. I do sympathise with P'ter for not getting it, but I'm still happy that I got it..... Hence the

Thanks Mawra!

They are Advance Readers Copies - usually given out to Reviewers and the like a couple of weeks before the publication date. Hans know more about them then I do... He was the one who explained them to me.

Some ARCs are still at the uncorrected proof stage; so the reviewers are also Beta readers.
