Default Guess what.....

I got today! My wonderful wife gave me a combination wedding anniversary, Father's Day, and birthday present. Not much, really. Only a (drum roll, please)

Canon EOS Rebel XS with EF-S 18-55mm IS lens, AND EF-S 55-250mm IS lens!!!!!!!!!!!!

The battery is charging, and I'm going to take the 4Gb SD HC card out of my Casio pocket camera, download the pics, wipe the card, and reformat it to the Canon.

We're going to Branson (Missouri) for the weekend, and she thought I might want to take a picture or two.

I'm a long-time (since 1968) Canon camera fan. I have a Canon EF (body), an A-1, 55 mm f1.4, 50mm f3.5 macro with its 2x converter, 85mm f1.8, 35-70mm f3.5-4.5, 70-210mm f4 lenses, the power winder A, and the hard to find Canon RC1 remote shutter release. The EF was a very advanced camera in its day; besides being one of the first Canons to offer aperature preferred or shutter preferred auto exposure, it also boasted a metal copal-square shutter which allowed the camera to flash-sync at 1/125th of a second instead of the usual 1/60th. The A-1 is well-known in its own right. I bought it new, as I did the 85mm, 35-70mm, and 70-210mm lenses. Everything else came from ebay. I'm going to finally give up on 35mm, and put it all up for sale on ebay. I'll probably keep my camera bag and my big old Vivitar flash; it's such a powerful unit that it will reach out to 50 feet on a 35mm camera. I'm assuming here that the Rebel has the same Canon hot shoe as the A-1 and EF, besides the built-in flash.

So anyway, I get to move on into digital photography like I've wanted to!

Default Just a sample

We went to a music show in Branson, MO. over the weekend. Auto exposure mode, flash turned off.

We also went to the Butterfly Palace. I'll be going back there for more like these.

I got to learn the tip of the iceberg when it comes to auto focus and exposure. I'm looking forward to lots more.
