Default just typical...

If I'm a little short with people (and my lab partner was nearly short of a few vital body parts! today!) its cos life is conspiring against me again!

ok thats probably a bit strong, but its how I'm feeling.

Luckily one bits sort of sorted itself out! just all the beauracracy to go.

Basically, my course is turning into a long, long road of annoyance.

Itsnot the work as such (tho lab reports are a bit interesting-hence wanting to lynch my lab partner) more the beauracracy.

It all boils down to the fact they disconinued my course. I'm allowed to finish it but...
now the course is basically just planetary and space physics (not atmospheric physics)
luckily I've seen my tutor and I can try to swap to plain physics. I feel a bit guilty about swapping tho-and my tutor is a PSP guy ...
so hopefully that'll get sorted.

Only problem now is trying not to lynch my lovely lab partner
latest was the fact he didn't email me the vital data I needed for this morning until last night!
and I've got another month to go...

oh well, there's exams after christmas, how much worse can it get...

Poor edith!

Some of my courses are quite as well... at Essex they only do early-modern (and occasional modern) history courses, and they are ALL social history, and MUCH prefer political history! :irked:

If this country really wants to improve education:

1) FIX THE BUILDINGS! Or biuld new, larger, more modern school buildings.

2) HIRE MORE TEACHERS and give them a decent wage, seminars to keep them updated, and allow them to dicipline their students.

3) Get a real national cirriculum. No two schools seem to teach the same things.

4) NO SPECIALIZATION UNTIL UPPER SCHOOL

5) If you live in a certain catchment area, THAT is where your child goes to school. You want them in a different school, move or PAY to have them somewhere else. And places in schools should go to those students living IN their catchment areas before anyone outside that area is even considered.

There is a National Curriculum, from year 1.

As for the rest - I agree!!!

Okay, they need to RE DO the national Cirriculum. They are trying to teach too many things, and therefore aren't teaching anything well.

its not that they do to many things, its sometimes a case of the wrong training. For example there a v few science based primary school teachers. I still can't do long division cos my teacher couldn't do it and thus didn't teach us!
one of my Mums adult maths pupils applied to do primary teacher training and was told she had the wrong degree!!!
she was a practical chemist & therefore not the right person for the job

the national curriculum IS constantly being updated-hense the fact its such a mess!

oh well...
I've got lab in a bit and I'm feeling ill...

That could be down to anything else also - bad teachers, bad school... etc etc

Dancer's teachers are both very intelligent young women, and they are very good with their students. What they are given to teach, they do a good job at. So far.

But the school is starting to show it's age (plaster falling, paint peeling, etc)

IMO, what they need to do it renovate all the schools, enlarge them if need be for their catchment areas, STICK to the catchment areas for state-run schools, hire more teachers, and help those teachers keep up to date.

The school Dancer attended in NY was the same primary my brother and I went through 30 years ago...with one entire new wing, and almost double the amount of teachers and staff. It still serves the entire Island section of town, plus a little more, with no problems. Class size is between 15 and 25 children.

Thus the reason I actually thank my college Trig teacher. We'd walk into the room for a quiz, and he'd announce "Your calculators have all just died! Here's your quiz." It wasn't enough for him that we got the right answers, he DEMANDED to see HOW we got them.

Enjoy this. When I was an internal student, in order to live off the student payment, you had to give up thousands, to take a loan out for double that. Plus you never got rent assistance, unlike the pension and dole, and you had higher costs.

Typical.
