Default Moreta- pleased with the future of Pern or not?

Would she have wholeheartedly approved the way Pern is changing so quickly and Aivas or taken some time to digest and have mixed feelings... the rigidly feudal Pern of the old timers was after all the Pern she knew and she seems perfectly adapted.

What happened with Ruatha would probably send her into a light depression at least.

I doubt she'd understand it at all without a lot of education and exposure. There's, what, a thousand turns between her and the 9th Pass, give or take? What would someone from 1015 think if you dropped them on the streets of New York City today?

Really? When the culture didn't change all that much between the second pass and the start of the ninth? I think she'd have a far better chance of understanding it than the average person, given her position in society, education, and familiarity with all three strands of traditional pernese culture.

So she was 1000 turns closer to the settlers.

The Pernese of Moreta's time were less devolved than those of the Ninth Pass. The remaining Records were more legible than those available 1000 turns later. The Healer Hall still had a lot of knowledge about the history of Pern (e.g. that the Pernese came from another planet), the development of livestock from ova ("a frozen stew"), and the relationship of dragons with fire-lizards, etc. The info about using blood serum to protect against viral diseases was buried among Capiam's lecture notes (should have been more accessible in the Records). The healers may still have been doing surgery, which was almost unheard-of (or frowned upon) by the end of the 2nd Long Interval.

Moreta may well have been aware that much knowledge had been lost, and would, I believe, have welcomed the limited range of restored capabilities offered by AIVAS. These mostly involved comfort and convenience --- solar lighting and heat, paper books instead of skins, small electronic communication devices (in her day, fire-lizards were no longer an option in the North). The computers found in the Catherine caves were used only at the Landing school, and probably no more would be manufactured, but while they lasted the data was available to anyone who could figure out how to make use of it. Above all, no-one was forced to use the rediscovered technology.

Society-wise, Moreta was looking forward to the end of the Pass, when the dragon-riders would take a back seat and she would have more freedom. At the very least, she would have taken a keen interest in the AIVAS Renaissance --- assuming she somehow got transported between to that era.
