Erm no, Captain Jack was never part of UNIT (unless it was in a Torchwood episode). UNIT first appeared in 1969 in The Invasion where it was a military group set up to deal with alien threats and the UK contingent was led by Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (The Brig- who is one of the coolest characters ever in Doctor Who). It starred for most of the John Pertwee stories and kept popping up later on occasionally. The modern Doctor WHo UNIT is a bit pathetic compared with the original.

Thanks Edith, I didn't know that. I hazarded a guess, it wsas wrong but that's ok. I hadn't been able to watch all the older Who espisodes, espcially the WHO's from when it started. I enjoy Dr.Who a lot, Tennet is great, so was Eccelston. I hadn't had the opportunity to see the other Doctors in action...yet.

If you want to watch UNIT stories look for the Jon Pertwee stories (or The Invasion- but be warned, The Invasion was the story that made me realise that the new series is doing rather too much recycling of erm.. whole stories) as most of the ones released on DVD are UNIT stories.

Sorry- got OT there

I noticed they were with some. WHhch ones have you seen that they'er redoing, recycling?

The only "Unit" I'd seen was not Dr Who related, but an US army unit in the special ops section. Good show. A nail bitter at times.

This isn't really the place, but the really shocking one was this year's Christmas special-Voyage of the Damned which not only nicked large chunks from The Poseidon Adventure very badly, but directly took scenes from Robots of Death which is worrying as RoD is a "spot the reference" story based roughly on an Agatha Christie story. There was a bit where the person who had to take command was attacked by a robot and they managed to shut all but an arm out of the room

No problem. At least one person I've known has used the quote "threads that stay 'on topic' die a quick death". At least this one isn't dead yet!

Same here.
Embrodry, cross sticht. I saw a gorgious tiger flutterby today, and wish i had the digi cam out. S/he had bright yellow and black stripes with black swallow tails. He'd've been perfect to imprint as a cross stitch image. As well as the orange spotted fluterby that was in my yard.

Just thought: Mum never did finish the dragon crosstitch for my 20th Birthday (To put it into perspective I'm 23 in a few weeks )
I keep meaning to do some but it's always time that stops me.

Edith, my Dad used to do embroidry stiching. His last project was a massive 3' by 2' canvas of a autumn woodland scene with deer, log cabin next to a stream. It took him a few years to do it. I don't know if he's still embrodiering, maybe.

I bet your peice will be well worth waiting for cuz mom made it.

I'm still working on my pansy cross stitch at work but in the evenings here at home I have been working on some quick and easy things to make cards. Mainly Christmas cards for this year, but I did make a card for my mom's birthday, which is next week. So I thought I'd post it here for those who appreciate the work that goes into these.

I took an existing birthday card and just covered the front with the cross stitch and then put a ribbon around the edge to finish it off. The rooster was larger than I really wanted which is why I had to use an actual card. I have small blank card stock and envelopes that I will normally use. I also have stamps to put little things on the inside of the card. I hope they work!

Wow, professional looking! The actual card is professionally done, but heck it didn't take anything to put the piece on the front. Just some double stick tape. I did have to glue the ribbon around the edge. I just hope she can frame it and keep it.....which is the whole point to the cards....something to keep and use year after year.

As for the signature....it's just a pattern I followed. There are lots out there and this one seemed like a good one to me. Tho it's a bit large, I should have tried to figure a way to make it smaller but it's getting too close for me to do that.

I found a site that has really easy to download embroidery patterns for free. That's where I found the rooster for the card.

It's....http://cross-stitchers-club.com/?code_avantage=puhmte. Just click on this link to go there and check it out.

Plus, if you click on this link, you'll automatically receive a gift if you subscribe. I use this site all the time; there are hundreds of different types of patterns, and there are new patterns added everyday. It's really worth a look. Lots of good 'fonts' for signatures too.

Those patterns are lovely...makes me wish I still did cross-stitching. I belong to one similar only for Knitting patterns...but lately I haven't gotten to go and look to often, or to try any of them out...sigh!!

I love your card, Becky, and these are beautiful patterns indeed! Thank you for the link.

I will have to get back to cross stitching - I haven't done it for ages but when I'm hand-stitching clothes, I find my fingers develop pins and needles very quickly. I hope the carpal tunnel syndrome isn't recurring!

Oh, no Kerianth! I hope that it's not! That's such nasty stuff. I do hope you can get back into it. I missed it so much and am very glad that I was able to get back into it myself.

Priscilla....I hope you enjoy the site. I have liked looking thru all the patterns and different 'fonts' (as I call all the alphabet patterns) that they have. Some are easy and some look rather difficult. Interesting to see all the different things people have come up with.

Thank you, Becky! I would love to get back into stitching - I have so many projects I've bought over the years and never even started, plus some beautiful kits I was given from my Secret Santa on the NKT a couple of years ago! There's a lot to be done!

We really need some stitching smilies for MoM ....

I'm currently doing a tablecloth, which is going to take me months as it's stamped work and I'm not fond of that style. Also just started a picture that I found on the internet and turned into a pattern. That would be this one:

http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...the_wizard.jpg

I love the colors and the swirls in the design!

The only thing I can take any "credit" for is finding the picture. The computer makes the program, then it's just a matter of putting in the time to sew it. There will be pictures, but it's gonna be a while. Got a new job that is thankfully keeping me rather busy, so far!

That is an incredible *Dragon/Wizard* pattern for you to do...I will enjoy seeing the photos and following your progress on it. Good Luck on the new job...I know your really going to enjoy working with the *Kiddie's* again. They do have such a lovely way of grabbing a hold of your heart.

It has been a really long time since I posted any pictures of my projects but I just feel like it today, for some reason. I did finish the dragon and wizard. I guess I'll start with that:

Great job, Cilla! I've worked all year on making small Christmas themed works to put on cards, like I did with my mom's bday card. I've got a whole bunch of them and am going to start actually making the cards tomorrow! Last vacation day before having to go back to work and I've gotten all the 'have to do's' out of the way so have an entire day to do what I want. Will be working on collecting highlight stuff for a couple hours later on this afternoon, so a nice afternoon too.

Good for you, Becky! I've also been making "red work" Christmas ornaments this year. Have you ever done any of that? It's the first time I tried it and it is so easy just doing one color on the whole picture! Here's one of them:

http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...t=DSCN0549.jpg

The hard part will be putting them together as ornaments. I wish the "ornament creating fairy" would come do it for me!

I did look at your other work and saw the red work. I bet it is easy, but never tried it. Maybe next year.
I took the 'easy'(?) way out by doing cards. I did find some clear acrylic magnets for fridges that I'll put in with the cards so they can be cut to fit and slipped into the magnet and displayed on the fridge, I hope.
