I haven't checked the site very thoroughly yet, but I wish there'd be some sort of information or something. I don't think you can abandon these hatchlings/eggs either (just in case) - very strange indeed!

Yes, that was one of the threads I read. There's another one which gives a picture of the new dragon and a little description about it, too. I'd like a little clarification from the owner/creator on them, but I'm happy to wait and see.

It's certainly got people talking!

Phew! After some more reading, I'm not sure I want to take on this kind of challenge - raising a vampire egg! I just posted a question on their forum, asking if there are any other ways to abandon the egg (mine just kept coming back) and I had the reply that the only way to abandon them is to kill them. I don't like the thought, but...

I may let someone else have a go, so that I can concentrate on the other dragons. If what I've read about them is true (and I don't mean the 'vampires killing other eggs' problem, I mean the way they breed, too) then I'm not sure I want one.

Edit: Well, in the end, I did it. It'll regenerate and appear on the abandoned page now, and hopefully someone else can have a go. I didn't like doing that.

I think you did the right thing, though. Why sacrifice your enjoyment of the game for a holiday egg that isn't (at least to me) a real part of the game. I've just browsed the forums a bit on that site, and so many people are getting obsessed with the halloween eggs, it's ridiculous! Don't feel bad, you made the right decision.

Thanks, Allana. That does make me feel better.

I don't like the little headstone on my scroll, though. I wonder if they vanish in a set amount of time, or if it's there permanently. Hopefully it'll vanish in a little while. I'll have to check the FAQs on their site about that.

Your dragons are coming along so well! Yours are looking good, too, Rissa!

Yeah..I also think its 2 weeks. (Im waiting for egg that died to dissapear.) And rather you lose a vamp egg, than one of your babies you REALLY care about.

*I havent read about how they breed...almost scared to look now!*..

But we just have to catch one of the nicer egg drops, maybe a winter egg drop..if they have it. At least that wont kill off all the other dragons you've worked so hard to keep.

My purple just went adult. After my other 2 grow up, I might try to breed a few.

That's odd - I just logged in to check my scroll and the tombstone has gone. I thought it was two weeks, too.. This is strange...

From what I heard (although a lot of the threads about it seemed to disappear last night) the Vamp eggs breed by biting and injecting their venom into the egg of another dragon, thus making it undead. Didn't like the sound of that!

And you're right, Rissa - maybe I'll try for one of the nicer egg drops or holiday eggs.

Yeah..Im going INSANE..It's been down all evening/night.

I just hope it is a normal issue with the server.. and not TJ (The owner of the site) walking off in a huff, like some said. The Forums are still up thought.

A sig line in someones post said it best..

The Dragon Cave: Addicted to another sort of crack!

And I had hatching babbies too!! WAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

P.S. > When I thought about it, I realized why the tombstone dissapeared from your scroll. Vampire eggs REGENERATE. So when you killed it, it was only dead for a little while, until it regenerated and went to the abandoned pile.

*Knew there was a brain in there someplace...*

I think you're right about the vampire hatchling regenerating, and the tombstone disappearing. I'm glad - I'm still a little worried that it'll add to the "kill" limit (too many and your scroll gets burned. I really didn't want to have any on there) - hopefully it'll be recognized that it's an unusual situation and accounted for. I really didn't like the bit of text you get when I chose the "kill" option, though.

I'm hoping it's a server issue, too - I'd hate it to be because of the site owner wallking out. Half of me wishes that there was more information on the main page, other than "Sorry, a database error has occurred". I know that they're likely working on it, but still... Ah well.

And it is addictive, isn't it? I had two hatchlings that were due to grow up, as well as two eggs waiting to crack. I wonder if we'll get the time back, or if they've hatched/matured during the interim.

Edit: Well, it's back up (although whether it stays up is another matter). My two eggs hatched safely, and my two hatchlings are very close to maturing now. Here's hoping it stays up!

Basically, you post the link to your egg in a place where it can get a lot of views, unique views, and clicks. With enough of these, the egg will hatch and you'll have a hatchling. You need to keep getting the views, unique views and clicks for the hatchling, too, so it'll eventually mature into a dragon.

Every time someone clicks on the link, it'll add these views to the tally, although each person who clicks on it can only get one unique view and one click per day. They can get repeat views, though.

I hope I've covered everything! (Rissa, Allana, Golden Lilith's Rider, please feel free to correct anything I've missed!)

Rissa, I've only tried breeding my white dragon with my magi dragon, my grey with my guardian, and my black with my purple. I'd love to be able to breed a silver or a gold, though - I have no luck at snagging them from the main cave!

Welcome to the insane world of Dragons!

One of the BEST guides to read on the site, is under the the introduce yourself section called:

DragonCave for Dummies...
http://dragcaveforum.technoized.com/...howtopic=23248

This will save you alot of grief on your poor eggs.

I cant tell you the exact difference, but, I do know after losing my first egg, that if you do NOT get the right balance of clicks, views and unique views, the egg WILL die.

This site - Daily DragonFix:
http://emmilely.exofire.net/index.php

Is an excellent place to post your dragons up on, so you just the right amount of hits necessary to have your egg hatch safely. You HAVE to give them 20 clicks a day, but that not much at all.

If worse comes to worse, and your egg reaches 3.0 days, with NO signs of hatching ..Then send it to the ER PRONTO! THEY can hatch your egg safely also, but I have found the DragonFix a nice way to getting them to adulthood safely.

http://www.thedcfansite.com/emergency.php

LOL..as to why it says stolen..i think its just the funny quark of the guy running the site. They are ALL stolen, unless you breed them yourself.

Have fun!!
And dont forget to share a link!

P.S. You cant NOT LINK to your INCUBATOR!! Change it to the user addy they gave you...
http://dragcave.net/user/Pernaficianado

That way others can see your eggs!!

I just picked up another of those split eggs, too, so hopefully I'll be able to breed some of them soon. At least the amount of black and green eggs on the abandoned page has gone down now. I kept thinking of Menolly's comments about green fire lizard eggs!

Thanks, I did find the dragonfix site on my own, but i still have several hundred views and unique views, and only about 10 or 12 clicks. I dont even know how to tell when the eggs are getting soft shelled. I read all the literature in the forums before I started but i still dont understand some of it. I think the problem is that I dont do a lot on the web, and the only place I post is here on MoM.

That happened to me today - one of my eggs got a soft shell from too many views/clicks too soon. If you click on "view" and see a line of text saying something like "The shell of the egg seems soft, as though there's something wrong with it" under the main description of the dragon, then the egg has a soft shell. It'll get healthy again and harden up if it's given a time without views or clicks, and the best way to do that is to hide it (in the actions menu). After a while, it should get back to normal, and you can unhide it again to get views.

Let's see if this helps:

Views - Views are accumulated every time someone visits your egg/hatchling/dragon.

Unique Views - U-Views are accumulated the same way. However, you only get a Unique View once on each egg/hatchling/dragon you visit.

Click - Clicks are accumulated when someone clicks your eggs/hatchlings/adults from a signature or whever it has been placed. However, like U-Views, clicks are only given once on each egg/hatchling/dragon you visit.

How do I know if my egg has soft shell?

It's easy. A message gets added below the description of the egg:

My egg has soft shell! What kind does it have?

There are 3 different types of soft shell, it's important to know which
you have to be able to treat them.

1. More clicks than unique views.
2. More unique views than views.
3. Too many views too fast. If you got many views on the first day and
your ratios are otherwise healthy you have this kind of soft shell.

How do I cure my soft shell?

Each type of soft shell has a different treatment:
1. Remove the link part of the code, only posting the image. This will
prevent people from giving it any more clicks until the ratio is fixed.
This kind of soft shell can heal itself, so it is not so important to
treat as long as the ratio is not very bad.

2. Post it somewhere where the same people will view the egg multiple
times.

3. Hide the egg for at least a day. Usually eggs with this kind of soft
shell already have enough views to hatch, so you can hide it for a few
days and it will hatch fine.

Now I know how to cure the soft shell, but how do I prevent it from
happening again?

1. This is most often caused by clicking your egg right after you get it
before it gets any views. I believe it can also be caused by giving a
direct link to the egg rather than posting the image. If you don't get
the code from the "get code" area and end up with a code that looks like
Hkg3/1.gif (bad) rather than Hkg3.gif it can cause this. I believe that
if it has /1 before the.gif it will not give views when loaded, and so
the egg will not be getting views, just clicks. This goes with linking
directly to the egg in being the cause of many of the severe cases.

2. I'm not sure if this kind of soft shell happens, as I've never seen
it, but if it tends to happen to you, follow the cure before it happens.

3. Hide your egg for a day or so right after you get it if this tends to
happen to your eggs. Experiment to find the amount of hide time that is
right for your eggs, but a day or so is usually good. Remember to try to
not get more than 400 views on your first day, 200 or less is best.

======================
Dont feel bad. Its confusing for US too!. Best thing is to hide *Fog* your egg for a day, and see what happens. If that dosent work, you might have the other type of sickness, and you have to take other steps for that. But usually fogging works.

Yes, It IS CONFUSING AS HECK!

Which is why i like the other site. Havent had soft shell happen.

Phew. Two of my eggs hatched this morning, and I was able to get one more egg; a pink one, this time. I'm trying to complete the set of regular eggs before I breed any more. Although that may change if I'm not quick enough (which has happened on a lot of occasions recently...)

Wow, Rissa - your paper dragon grew up and is absolutely beautiful!
