Default Revenge of the dragon

Revenge of the dragon

In ages past the dragons flew
Over icy mountains and waters blue
But they were hunted to extinction
For man to gain himself distinction

They came clad in shiny armour
From noble to the simple farmer
To slay a dragon for gold and treasure
And count it ‘til they die was pleasure

They quested long in search of power
And found a dragon’s mountain tower
The peaceful dragon gliding high
Saw her babes and lifemate die

In a fury down she flew
Angry ruby eyes aimed her true
The murderers were in a flash
Flesh and armour turned to ash

They now want one thing more than ever
Life – can they have it? NEVER!

a little something i made up today...

Very nice. Reminds me of a short story I read called "The Dragonbone Flute" - but I can't remember who it was by...

Okay, googled it - the story was by Lois Tilton. About a peasant shepherd who finds a dragon's bones in a mountain cave and whittles one into a flute, which brings the dragon's mate searching for her beloved's voice...

Excellent. I read it in Treasures of Fantasy, ed. Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman & Martin H. Greenberg, HarperPrism 1997. The rest of the stories in that were really good as well - that's why they were called treasures!

Just googled, apparently it's also in A Dragon-Lover’s Treasury of the Fantastic, ed. Margaret Weis, Warner Aspect 1994
