For some reason, Damia. Maybe because she really has a lot to live up to, and she is willing to risk a lot to keep the man she loves. (Afra IS quite a bit older than she is.)

Actually Kater, you still had it wrong - it's Rhyssa, not Rhyessa. I'll go fix it!

I like young Damia (she was a lovely precocious child--at least to read about, not sure I'd have wanted to raise her!), and Rhyssa, and Dorotea.

My favorite is Laria, she's her own strong person, without being too cocky or emotionally unstable like her mother was and her grandmother always will be. I can't stand being around volatile women, so the Rowan and Damia would both of them have driven me nuts.

I think the person I would most like to meet would be Isthia. She has taken a lot of hard knocks during her life, but she always comes up with an answer - and makes it happen! Plus, she raised Jeff Raven, and that can't have been easy!

Isthia. She managed to raise 12 kids of her own and then took on her 4 highly talented (read - too difficult for their working parents to handle even with help from Tanya and Afra) grandchildren - and managed to do just about anything and everything she ever set her mind to on top of that!

Plus, she seems so nice with it - kinda the ideal mother / grandmother / friend / etc. to just about everyone. I also love the bit about Jeff having a wolf as a guardian when he was a kid

I seem to remember that he had a mother wolf as a pet while growing up that would knock him over and sit on him until Istha would show up and take over

Yup, that's the one I was thinking of! I remember it from Damia when they're discussing options for controlling Damias emerging talents on Callisto. Remeber the bit where he said he ended up with a lot of bruises but it sure kept him out of any more trouble

I don't like Asia. I was shy as a teen, but never quite that shy, thank goodness. And Rojer needs a big slap for being so blind, I would never stoop so low as Asia does to cater to Rojer's overprotective self-image (probably one reason why I'm still single is that I've always found massaging a male's ego incredibly demeaning and refuse to do it). So the only time I'm really not irritated with either of them is when she finally takes the initiative and kisses him. I guess it takes all sorts...

As my two favs weren't there I went with Damia (which really wasn't that much of a stretch ) - but my two favorites are Laria and Allison Greevy (after all she got Thian who I LOVE).

Funny how my three fav females also happen to be hooked up with my three fav males.

My favorite woman of the 9-star league is actually Laria, just because i find her easy to relate to. My other favorite female characters in this series are Tirla and Damia. Damia reminds me of myself at the moment always getting into trouble and having my parents constantly trying to understand me.

Just started reading the Rowan series (am currently in the middle of Damia) and I'd have to say Isthia is my favorite. She seems like such a nice motherly person and she's such a rock to her family. Also, little Damia is adorable.
And where's Lusena? I know she only appears briefly in the first book but she was an important figure in the young Rowan's life.

Isthia Raven, most certainly. Very subtly powerful character. Simply amazing. With the Rowan, Damia, and such you're made to know who's in charge there. But with Isthia you're just kind of bowled over with the subtle power she has in her character.

I like Damia, she was some kind of charactor as a little girl, and as a woman and mother she turn out very well. And the most important thing that has not been mentioned yet, She got Afra, WOW, to be Mrs. Afra Lyon, the only draw back is his family, a little to stuffy!

I have to say Isthia.. and for somewhat egotistical reasons. After reading the series simultaneously with my oldest daughter, she stated one day you know, mom, Isthia reminds me of you. A mother couldn't get a better compliment from her daughter!!! This is also the same daughter who tagged me with the nickname All knowing mommy goddess.

Indeed. The advantage is, of course, that they don't seem to do much visiting. Laria and Thian, possibly Rojer, were sent to Capella for a while, "although it wasn't a successful visit" and there must've been some contact in addition to the normal Tower procedures, since Afra managed to get some of his nephews and nieces posts away from Capella.

I can see how a lot of you are choosing Isthia. She is a formidable woman, though in my eyes not as formidable as the Rowan. How can you not love the Rowan, she is beautiful, wickiedly smart, and has a fiery temper. She just exudes greatness.

I don't think a fiery temper means greatness, more like an inability to cope with inner turmoil. Isthia gets what she wants without throwing temper tantrums (the Rowan, Damia until the Sodan incident) or without resorting to too much manipulation.

The Rowan and Damia both really irritate me with their inability to handle their emotions. Just because you have T-1 powers does NOT mean it's okay to have tantrums after the age of three or so.

Brenda, I absolutely agree with you!

Makes me think, really, what Anne was like as a young person, since so many of her main female characters are temperamental, and have guys who deal with it in rather underhanded ways (Rowan - Jeff, Killashandra - Lars, Lessa - F'lar). Each of those couples has something in their interaction that smells very "off" to me. Say, if I'm in one of my -fortunately rare- ranty moods, the last thing my bf would try to do is to silence me with a pinch where it can't be seen by others. He knows he'd get a bloody nose for his pains!

I would pick Rowan. I think she has such spirit. The only sneaky thing she did that I didn't like was when she made herself pregnant a second time. I would have liked Anne to explore Rowan more as she got older. I felt that she could have developed her more as she became more adult.

Not the second time, but the fourth, when she took sperm without Jeff's full cooperation/involvement, although to be quite frank, I still don't understand exactly what she did. Damia needed a companion, when Jeran and Cera were so involved with each other that they excluded her from their games.

The Rowan was sneaky in that case, yes, but she paid for it by being much sicker than during her other pregnancies.
