Default Latest aquisition

My wonderful, amazing, brilliant (d'you think he'll buy me something else now?) boyfriend got me a copy of the March 1954 UK edition of Astounding Science fiction which is, as far as I can tell, the equivilant of the Nov 1953 US edition, the one with the Frank Kelly Freas picture for The Gulf Between on the cover.

It's a bit tatty, but it is 53 years old!

I've been after it for ages!

And the version of the cover Freas did for the News of the World album by Queen has always been a favourite of mine, mesmerised me since I saw it on a cassette jacket!

So I'm very pleased!

It's also making me think about collecting this type of magazine. I've 3 old Analogs as well, Weyr Search, The Ship who Killed and a non-Anne related one and I find all the articles and the old fashioned adverts fascinating!

Congrats, Edi! And for those who are curious here's the British edition to the left, the US on the right. You are right, Edith, this picture definitely makes an impression.

Makes me weep for the boxes of Fantasy & Science Fiction and Azimov that vanished during a move.

It's a great gift and the BF appears to be a keeper!

Edi, What a wonderful gift from your boyfriend and a fantastic find in getting the magizine you've been wanting ...I really like that cover too.

The stories of childhood leave an indelible impression, and their author always has a niche in the temple of memory from which the image is never cut out to be thrown on the rubbish heap of things that are outgrown and outlived........Howard Pyle
