I'm sure there is room for sledding.

I've never heard of "Boston Bean Chowder", also never heard of "Boston Clam Chowder". There is "New England style Clam Chowder" which is made with cream - or there is "Rhode Island Clam Chowder" which has a clear broth. This may be something new to me!

I do like a grilled hot dog. Have not had one in ages.

I'll try all of those - once. My latest successsful experimental cooking was meat loaf in a muffin pan - great for individual servings as I live on my own. We won't mention some vegan hamburgers I bought that had the appearance, texture and flavour of cobblestones. They finished up in the worm farm. I'm sure I could make something much more tasty out of quinoa, kumara (sweet potato) and mushrooms.

Good for you and the meatloaf. It is one of the very few main dishes I can actually do fairly well. I make it with hamburg (minced beef?) an egg, a small 8 ounce jar of spaghetti sauce and enough Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix to give it texture. I put it in a loaf pan as there are 2 of us. The stuffing mix comes in a bag and is really just seasoned, dry, small chunks of bread, normally used to stuff either a chicken or turkey.

I have never eaten anything vegan and your description makes me not want to. For some reason whenever I see Vegan I think Vogon from Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy and then I say "Nope, none of that!"

I did have a recipe for Boston Baked Beans that I liked, and it was good for taking to group picnics in a haybox - basically a carton full of crumpled newspaper with the casserole dish full of beans inside to keep warm. Unlike New Zealand baked beans, which are in a tomato sauce the Boston Baked beans used molasses. I don't have the recipe any more so I can't remember what else was in it.

The cobblestone veganburgers were bought in a packet. I do cook vegan sometimes but a lot of the meat-substitute vegan food that you buy is grossly over-processed and I'd rather have my food as near to the garden that produced it as possible.

Probably tofu, Ginny. It's made out of soyabeans, looks like a dense cheese and has very little flavour until it's added in cooking. I'd rather have the mushrooms.

Good idea. I'll join you with a cold glass of cranberry juice and my latest sewing - a dragon this time. Definitely not a Pern one. When it's done you'll see it on FB.

It's hovering around the 30c mark here and that's just a bit too warm for me. *Grabs some mittens, a toque and a jacket and into the snow globe.* Much better. Hangs a Do Not Disturb sign on the back of a lounge chair, leans back sipping hot choc with Baileys and watches the stars.

Perhaps you could ask someone to help you set up a FB account? I cannot show pictures here as I only access this site through my Nook tablet and I am not at all sure how to move pictures around on it or load them from the tablet to this site. I'm afraid FB is the only place I have for sharing pictures.

The picture is up on FB, mawra and Mausey. I have only about 35 people on FB. Some people seem to have thousands! I like to check on my friends every day, even though a lot of them seem to only write something new a couple times a year.

What's your FB name? I'm "friends" with Mausey & 1 or two others. I don't have all that many friends on FB. I believe in quality, not quantity. I'm under my own name there (Allen Harrison). I also have a meme saved that I believe in. It says, "Keep your circle of friends small and your beer cold." Words to live by, for me, at least. Anyone here is more than welcome to send me a friend request, but be warned: I'm politically a United States Conservative (I think that means something different in UK), and not anywhere near "politically correct" verbally, if you haven't noticed. If you're easily offended, and you still want to send me a friend request, at least you were warned. Just let me know through PM or post here that (Your Name) sent me a friend request, so I know it's not a spammer.

To post pictures here, you have to use an outside source, a photo-hosting site. Zelandeth showed me how. I used to use Photobucket, but it turned into a pay site. i don't remember what I switched to.

I sort of figured that, Allen. I only use a tablet so it might be that a photo hosting site would not even work for me.

BD1, do you use that same email address for other communication or did you create it specifically for FB access. It kind of sounds like there is something odd about the email address that is keeping you from FB. Or, I could be completely wrong about that as my actual computer knowledge is tiny and I'm just going on what seems like it might be logical.

Well I am stumped though I can't think of any logical reason why FB would single you out to not allow an account. They don't know you and they don't make money from ads if people can't see the ads. I go back to ask someone where you live to help you with it or just give up. You really are not missing much. Most of the people I have on my very short list might put up a new comment once or twice a year. Hardly a place of great excitement!

Gonna leave FB alone. I look at YouTube! Got a problem with my roommate and bossy girl. I was sitting on my bed, they wanted me to wake two people up this morning. I don't want to do too much!! If I do something without being told, get fussed at, don't do anything, fussed at! Either way get fussed at! :_(

Sounds like a plan related to FB. If someone I know links to a YouTube video I may watch it, otherwise I sew, listen to quiet music and watch the hummingbirds at the feeder.

Facebook is good to stay in touch without spending a fortune on long distance charges. With 8 of 14 brothers and sisters still living, it is good to keep up to date with family happenings. 3 new Great nieces/nephews about to enter this crazy world. Other than family i don't believe much of what is on facebook. I will do my own research on anything that grabs my interest.

I agree DragonFan. I have less than 40 people on FB. Most are family or friends of family. The rest are people I have known through the internet, some for nearly 20 years.

That is a large family you come from! It was just my brother and I and now, just me.

I see very little "news" on FB, most of my friends don't "do" that. It is of course best to do our own research.

I'll never have nieces or nephews. My husband is an only child. My only brother (only sibling) died age 19.

I have a few good friends that are like family and one person who does genealogy who discovered we are distant cousins. She's far nicer than any of the cousins I grew up with!

The person who does genealogy: She wouldn't happen to be named Cheryl, with a hyphenated last name, would she? I met someone on Ancestry.com who I'm related to. Turns out she's also a genealogist, and works with Ancestry, too. We're related through her first husband, so no blood ties, but she had researched his family. He and I are related on my father's side of the family, and she helped me find more information about that side of my extended family, including living relatives I never even knew existed. We belong to her extended "family" Facebook page, and I have contact with some of them on Facebook outside of that page.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if it turned out that your distant cousin and my marriage-related relative were the same person? We'd be "relations" of a sort.

Nope, it's not Cheryl. We are probably all related somehow if we go back far enough. I have so few relatives and most of the genealogy stuff does not really interest me. I am glad to call this other person family!

That is a large family you come from! It was just my brother and I and now, just me.

I see very little "news" on FB, most of my friends don't "do" that. It is of course best to do our own research.
Yes, quite a large Family, 14 kids, 10 girls and 4 boys. 21 nieces and nephews, 35 great nieces/nephews. and as mentioned before 3 more on the way, of all these there are only 3, I have never seen/met in person. Our Mother insisted that all who lived in our area of Central Pennsylvania, get together for a Family meal every Friday at the family Homestead, Which I now own. When she got sick and knew she was dying, she made all of her children promise to continue to get together every Week after she was gone. That was over 20 years ago. We still have this Friday Supper every week.

*YELLS* Hold on everybody, it's snow time!!!!!!! *Snow globe shakes violently (don't worry, nothing moves but the snow) and a fresh layer of snow starts falling.* I think we need some illumination. The entire globe comes to life with northern lights dancing across the sky. Reds, blues, greens, yellows, it's a dancing rainbow and if you listen carefully, you can hear a crackling sound.

And yes, they sometimes make noise, I've heard them. One time it was like being in a bubble, the lights filled the entire sky from horizon to horizon. They were the brightest I've ever seen and we could here the crackle. It was unreal but so beautiful. We sat outside for hours.

I would love to see that. Here in Connecticut it is very rare and then only a tiny bit of faint lights. I wonder what makes the crackling sound?

Thanks for the nice image discription, I recall listening to a TV program that some of the sounds are below our hearing, special mics can pick it up, special equipment can speed it up so we can hear it, if I recall right its sounds kinda like a pot of ooatmeal comming to a rolling boil, 'shrug shoulder, don't recall how far back that was just a bit of knowlage that I recall. I was out to outing today, at a park, I enjoyed telling someone who likes eletrics about my Victor Trek, and my color indcater wich talks, like my talking GPS, .

I love rainbows! I have several glass prisms hung on ribbons in the livingroom windows. The sun hitting them makes lovely little rainbows on the floor.

Fresh peaches at the farmers market. Peach cobbler for anyone that wants some. Or peaches cut up plain or with ice cream/whipped cream (no Cool Whip!)

I like apple cobbler! Anyone heard of apple strudel? I don't like peaches! Really strange as I live in "the peach state"!
