Since this thread is now open, I'll have a large orange juice and lemonade please...

And while I'm waiting, here are a couple of pictures comparing the drawing for the VISTA IR Camera filter wheel with the actual as built wheel itself:

The picture was taken before the wheel was painted with a special light-absorbent black paint. (My picture of the painted wheel is even more ordered; being an almost invisible black mass. The paint works!) The wheel can be positioned at its edge to an accuracy of less than a diameter of a human hair. It is now being used on the VISTA telescope.

Wow, StevenB! I'm afraid I may not be able to match you for celestial cool-ness, but here is my submission. . .

The local K-9 Drill Team in the Rodeo Parade. We try to look like we're in order, most of the time (emphasis on try!); some of the dogs are very old, some are young, and they are all different sizes. Some of the more experienced dogs know the routines (formations?) almost better than their human partners do, and they can 'drive' themselves through a routine.

Not my best effort photographically, I know.

I've just returned from a 36-hour babysit in StevenB's Prestonpans. Here are some pictures of the trip that could fit the theme . . .

A certain symmetry?

I was having trouble coming up with what to post for this one, when the picture below came up randomly on my screensaver. It's not the best photo--hazy since it was shot into the sun--and the kids aren't as perfectly posed as I might like. But all that aside, I'm still stuck with a sense of order by this photo.

Farclas, that bookcase looks scarily like mine - we have the same taste in books.

Mind you, while your Iain M's are in publication order, I'm not sure about the mainstreams... and you're missing a few, aren't you!!

It's part of my son's collection. He's kinda limited - Banks, Rankin, Brautigan, Brookmyre and military history! Errr, that's about it. And I have his Wasp Factory and Dead Air. Because someone borrowed my copies and didn't return them . . . I'm looking at you, Fiona

But, yes, he is organised; he gets irritated when I call this his scary shelf -

Heh

Like Cheryl I had trouble "filling this thematic photo order". I coudn't find anything recent that fit so I had to delve into my archives. I found this photograph taken during a winter skiing holiday in Wildermieming, Austria in 1981.

Farclas, I really like your dog and baby pictures; and Chery's slatue flanked by children. I think my own contribution makes for some interesting discussion but doesn't make a good photograph. It's a tricky subject.

Hans, your picture is corny but perfect.

Farclas, I'm wondering what scary piece of information your son found out about Disneyland Paris.

Maybe you need to teach your children war tactics to get in front of the line for certain attractions?

Matt's asleep, so finally I have a chance to catch up!

I love the type of patterns and order you can find in nature. This is a cactus from one of the indoor greenhouses in Mannheim's Luisenpark.

What a great idea, Kath, and a contrast to all the human-created order posted here. It's a great photograph too. I'd be tempted to try some sharpening on it and see if that brings up the fine bristles and texture on the cactus.

I guess that makes Han's photograph the ultimate in order - he has a collection of corn stalks ordered by nature which have themselves been ordered by a human (probably as a result of them being ordered from an agricultural wholesaler...).
