Default 1: 1 Jun 2009: A Meeting of Minds

The first theme and a hard choice The subject wasn't too difficult, I soon had an idea of what I wanted to post but then I came across another photograph and the difficulties began.... although it certainly wasn't meant that we post multiple pictures I will "break the rules" right away at the first time we do this

My first thought and choice was a picture I have not released before and didn't even take... oops; though I did make the request for it to be made. Quality wise there isn't much special to be said of this photograph but it's a picture dear to my heart for obvious reasons Without the lady on my right a lot of things in my life would have been different or (even worse) non existent. I would not have enjoyed a large number of great books, I would not have experienced a lot of things I am proud to have been involved in and, most important of all, I would lack a number of great friends and qcquaintances ad the thought alone makes me sad! So here's to you, Anne McCaffrey, with profound gratitude and love:

Oh, the picture was taken by my wife in a Chinese restaurant in Arklow, where I took Anne out for dinner.

After having chosen this picture and thinking thoughts that amount to what I have written above I thought of another picture that should not be absent in this post: the gathering of MoM members at Eurocon 2007 where Anne was guest of honour was an absolute highlight of my ten year association with Anne fans. Never again will another meeting be as good as this one because it will never be the first. Being together with friends, with Anne, having dinenr with her and the MoM group and -- most special of all -- being able to present her with our 40 Years of Pern book was truely one of the highlights of my life for which I am grateful to the friends that were there and to all of you who participated in that fantastic book endeavour!

A special thank you to Martin Eicher, who took the picture (this one was taken with my camera at least)

I hope I'll be forgiven for posting two pictures I didn't even shoot myself but in the end it's all Cheryl's fault and not only for chosing this subject

A photo we took of some strike protesters in Mannheim last year, near the water tower. One of the few bright things we saw on a rather dull February day, though their mood probably matched the weather more than ours did.

Just as the right theme for our first week was obvious as soon as I thought of it, so too was my entry. I took this when my twins were about 5 months old.

More *Meeting of Minds...at Eurocon 2007 again taken by
Martin Eicher...although he's not
actually a registered MoMer...he has been designated as
the *MoM's Official Groupie*...by the Head MoM Cheryl
and the rest of the MoMers that met up in Copenhagen,
for the very best of time with the BEST of FRIENDS!!!

Martin had so many camera's either around his neck or on
the ground in front of him, that one on looker ask if he was
one of the official photographers for Eurocon...he asnwered
no, but he was one of the offical photographers for MoM...
as all of us chuckled watching him juggle all the camera expertly...

This one is of Anne and Me together...

On of my most favorite *Meeting of Minds* at Eurocon, was this very
special one, where once again my favorite photographer was
there to capture the moment.

Looks like 800x600 to me P'ter. It may be that you were viewing a cached version after downsizing it.

I guess I should have expected that the phrase Meeting of Minds is indelibly linked with this forum, its members, and Anne of course, but I really hadn't expected all the pictures of MoMers! We are a good looking bunch, aren't we?

I think my favorite picture, (excepting my own which of course is a favorite) is P'ter's, which shows a wonderful meeting of young minds, united over a book.

I also like the concept behind yours, Kath.

I'm with Cheryl, but I think hers has the edge over P'ter - there's more of a physical and visual sense of minds meeting, although in reality the kids in P'ter's shot were probably closer to thinking along the same lines!

Seeing all the MoM gather shots is also lovely - nice to see, but though they fit the theme, they do feel more like snapshots than something that cries out the specific theme, as P'ter and Cheryl's pictures do.

Yes, congratulations to Cheryl, P'ter and Kath for resisting the temptation to post the obvious. I like Cheryl's picture too. It almost makes you wonder what's going through their minds.

But it was good to see those pictures of MOMers again and relive those memories. I wish the sun hadn't been so bright and dazzling when Martin was juggling all the cameras at EuroCON. But a group picture with Anne was an opportunity not to be missed.

I think Cheryl's photo of her twins was a perfect example of the theme, as was Peter's of his Grandchildren....but like Steven, getting to see once again, those photos of us from *Meeting of Minds* actually meeting, was incredibly wonderful.

Since twins seem to be figuring, here's a rare example of sisterly harmony - my daughters Gillean and Sara. Please allow for the rather brutal slash-and-burn approach to blurring the background - we were helping son Douglas move house and the boxes behind were rather ugly . . .

A rare photograph, if I understand you correct

With a good cutout/mask (which will take some time and work in the hair department) you good go many different ways with this excellent picture.

Which immediately reminds me that I have forgotten to send you the action I promised. I'm gonna do it right now, from work!
