Cilla - yes it's a stamped pattern with a sheet that gives the colors to use where. I don't normally do them as I thought them 'easy' but this one is not so easy as the stamping isn't very clear in spots, so thank goodness for the paper pattern! When I was a kid I used a stamped kit but the stamping were the x's for the cross stitch not just an outline like this one is. So that one was easy, if it had been like this one I'd never have continued with cross stitch.
I always use a hoop as it seems easier for me to hold it. Sometimes when the hoop is on the edge (as it is in the pics) the rest of the fabric has to be bunched and can be hard to handle but it's not like it's for the entire time you're stitching.
So how large are your pieces normally? I like the 'patch' you did! If you find out what it stands for let us know!! I love small quick projects. This one is the largest one I've done and it's so very hard to have to wait to see it done!
I look forward to seeing more of your projects Cilla!

The full sized Whelan Moreta that I did for Anne is the largest thing I've ever done. I don't remember how big that turned out. Lemme see. I did a Thomas Kinkade for a friend that I think was about 16 inches by 12. Most of what I do tends to be about 10 inches wide by 12 inches high. Yeah. That little patch was interesting. I'll see if I can find out from Jayson what it means. I'm currently doing another small thing, a green rose to send to Emerald Rose before Dragon*Con.

Oh, wait. A long time ago I did a baby quilt for friends in England. That was stamped and quite large. I also recently bought a table cloth and matching napkins to do, also stamped. I think I'm gonna have to live about 3 lifetimes to get all this done!

Ah, then your original Moreta is about the same size as the pansy piece. It's a lot of work no matter what! But enjoyable work. You sure have some projects, Cilla! Have fun with them! The baby quilt was sure special and I bet meant a lot to them. Wow, a table cloth! More than I think I'd take on. Good luck with it!

Do either of you two belong to any cross-stitch forums...or groups that get together ??

I have very much enjoyed getting to see what your both working on...I wish I had more time for this kind of stitch work...but there is only so many hours in the day, so I think I will have to leave this kind of artwork, to you two....and enjoy getting to see what you both make.

I don't. Gosh, I never even thought about "cross stitch forums". I spend enough time at the computer as it is! I'm happiest just sharing here and belonging to a couple other forums where I can be either active or not as the mood hits me!

I don't either. I just look for pattern books online. I do it to relax and with the time it takes me to do them on my lunch hours I just don't get much completed. But if I ever get stuck with something I guess I'd go looking online. (actually never thought about it, to be truthful Lin, thanks for the reminder that I can check online for groups!)

Becky your welcome...I ask because I have been teaching my girls to knit, and I have been looking for a forum for them to talk to other young girls that knit...and I'm not having any luck with it either.

Thought you two might belong to cross-stitch forums...as I know how much you both enjoy it....but I do understand not having anymore time to spend at the computer...and still get anything accomplished with what you enjoy doing...LOL

Here's the latest. I knew I wasn't going to make it to Dragon*Con this year, and since I had already made a "picture" of one of the band's album covers, which they hung in their music studio, I thought I'd give a try at something unique and small. At their main webpage there is an "Emerald" rose, in outline on black. I had my husband help me turn it into a pattern and did it up in about a week, framed it in a dark frame and sent it off to them today.

http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...sesRose001.jpg

And now, for something completely different, I'm doing silly caricatures of penguins as Christmas ornament gifts!

That's neat! I bet they love it! I love the shading you've done with the rose, Cilla. You're very very good at what you do! I bet your penguins will be loved by all who receive them!

Wow! I think I've completed two counted cross stitch projects and they were both quite small, as well as taking me a long time to make. I've learned that I might like looking at the pictures but making them is a whole other matter altogether. But looking at all your wonderful stuff is fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing.

Brighid - keep at your projects. If you do them at your lunch break you'll have a completed project in time and it keeps your hands busy!

I can't believe no one has answered this for you yet.

"Unit" is kind of like a British Men in Black in the Who-verse. They know about the Doctor, and keep an eye out for when he's around. They are also similar to Torchwood in that they handle extraterrestrial terrorists, and keep that knowledge from the mass public.

There may be more to that explanation, but that's my quick and dirty synopsis.

Thanks, Shalyn! Now I know why Jayson wanted that patch, he's a "Man in Black" in disguise - mild mannered nurse during the day, by night an "evil alien" fighting James Bond! Lucky he doesn't come here to see my silliness!

A little something I put together to take to Anne at Albacon. It's small, about 4 inches square. There is a second dragon in the series that is bronze/copper/reddish/brown that I am making up to take to Todd. I plan to frame them in identical frames. I said I wasn't making anything to take, another one of those "never say nevers".

This one is for Todd, at Albacon. It's not as red as it looks, more coppery.

Now I have to get frames for them!

They're bought patterns from a catalog. I'm headed to bed tonight but I'll get the name of the pattern company tomorrow. I can (and do) make my own patterns, though, with the PCStitch that I got for Christmas last year. Thanks. These are supposed to be "season" dragons. The one for Anne is Spring, the one for Todd is Fall. There are two others, one of which I may not ever do because I'm not crazy about it.

Great work, Cilla!
I'm working on a new piece at home, the pansy one is still at work. I'm getting a jump on Christmas and making ornaments for my coworkers. I've almost finished the first one, but I've got my gransons and their parents visiting so it's put away till they leave, which will be Friday. So maybe over the weekend I'll get back to it and finish it. It's taking me several hours to complete it and I hope they're not all this way or I still won't have them all done by Christmas.

Becky, well several hours each is at least a lot better than several days for each one. Hopefully you will be able to find time to get all the ones done that your wanting too.

P.S. I love the one that you made and sent me last year. He goes very nicely, with all his brother Christmas Santa's, that I have on my tree every year.

If the new ornaments are anything like mine, then I know they will be very beautiful indeed. Your work certainly is very well done, and I can't wait to see what the Pansy one looks like when you finish it.
Have you considered doing one of the Dragon patterns that are out there...or in making one of your own???

I really haven't considered doing a dragon, Maelin. I don't know why, tho maybe because when I decided to start cross-stitch again it was close to Christmas and so my mind was focused mainly on that sort of thing. Then I saw the pansy one and well, that's gotten me thru a year so far, well almost a year. Maybe when I finish the pansy project I'll think about a dragon. Good idea, thanks Maelin!!!

Your welcome...anyone who can see a dragon in the passing clouds, needs to find a dragon, that she would enjoy doing in her favorite hobbie. If it takes you a year, at least you'll really enjoy looking at what your creating.

I can't remember if I've asked you yet, Becky. Do you have the PCStitch program for your computer? If not and you find a dragon picture you'd like to stitch I can "turn it into" a pattern for you!

I think I'll stick to the weaving - at least I got my 2nd bracelet down, now to the scanner, then photobucket then back to MoM and the original thread. By the way it's tentatively called "Ruth swimming". I'll get back to you all when I've *bumped* the thread along. Good night, sleep tight and don't let the needle bugs bite.

I received a pattern for the cover of White Dragon from Cilla yesterday! I figure that the first dragon I should do is Ruth since it was the cover of White Dragon that drew me to reading Anne's books.
I don't know when I'll get to it since I'm still working the pansy project (that will keep me busy for quite a while). I'm working the Christmas ornaments now, so maybe after the first of the year I can get a start on it.
I also received a pattern for Weyrworld (cover of All the Weyrs of Pern). A large pattern and it looks a bit intimidating, but that may be my next large project, after the pansy one. We'll see.
Thank you dear Cilla!!!

Becky...I can hardly wait to see either one of those after you've finished them, now that will be a lovely art piece to hang above your Anne McCaffrey collection.

I hope to add them to my Anne items as soon as I can. I just hope it's not years before I get them finished! But the pansy one was started in January of this year but I did take two months off of it to do the ladybug pic for my granddaughter, so it's been months not years on the pansy project, even tho it seems like years! They'll be fun projects tho!

Becky... Well you have had yours hands quite full lately with a rather cute and cuddly bundle of love, named Abby remember....so your sewing would naturally take a back seat to that for a while....wink!!!
You will have plenty of time to work on a dragon or two in the future!!!

Oh I think I know what the "UNIT" emblem is. It's what Cpatian jake was a part of, a time agent or something.

One day, I'd tackle a cross stich project. I have however, hand embrodiered hand drawn leaves and vines on the ens of my tunics sleeves, and garment hem.(9 yard long lem) It took a year to do that. It's relaxing, wittles away the rainy days and commuting time on the bus.
