Don't have any

Anyway, I did a stupid thing and got impatient to bake it. I should have waited until I had pictures first, because now it has quite a bit of browning from being in the oven. I'll still get pics, but they won't look very good until I get it painted.

OH NO !!!! You burnt the sculpty clay. That must have smelled awful in your parents house!?! Can you paint over it with the burned parts, or are you going to have to do it over. I have never sculpted in Sculpty before so I don't know about this kind of burning.
I sure hope that you can save it, it is such a lovely sculpture job that you did.

It's impossible to avoid burning when you have a sculpture that's quite thick, especially if there are thinner parts on other areas - you have to bake it longer so that it's baked all the way through. Burning has no effect on the quality of the sculpture once it's painted, it's completely savable. Only a minor annoyance, it just takes more coats of paint to cover over the darker parts. These are very minor burns compared to my first sculpture attempt (which was completely blackened at the top) but it's still not a problem at all as long as there are no cracks or bubbles.

Looks like I'll have to leave it unpainted for about a month more *twitch* A person at the local art center has a brother who is involved with latex molds who will be visiting for Christmas and he'll be able to tell me if he could make a cast of it. I'll have to find some way to temporarily fill the hollow under the wing, because undercuts like that make for complicated casting. So it needs to stay unpainted until after any casting is done. I'd really love to have duplicates of it

Someday in the future, after I've done a range of other work, I'd like to make another larger version of this as well, to get a further depth of detail, fix up some of the unavoidable errors in this (such as not being able to make the baby small enough to fit in the hand and so the head is sicking out unsupported), and possibly have glass eyes for that touch of realism. I need to see if I can get access to a big pizza oven to bake a larger sculpture.

Somehow I got convinced into doing hunks/babes of Pern over on the KT by drooling fangirls  Kath asked me to post them in Maelin's art thread, but I don't want to Hijack hers, so here's the one I posted there, and a new one of Lessa. I'm missing a USB cable for my scanner, so these are just photos of them for now.

Not only the muscles, Becky, all the other things are in the right place too

Although I must admit, I know Spiff won't take offense, that I think Lessa is too beautiful, too feminine almost. But it is incredibly hard to satify the mental image of many fans as they all will differ slightly. The drawing sure depicts a very beautiful lady and I completely agree with Kath's remark about the hair! Well done.

No offense taken at all, and I agree. That drawing isn't at all like I picture Lessa in my mind, for some reason her face kept turning out to look like Evangelline Lily when I picture her as a thinner Amy Lee... and she's more curvy than she should be. Lessa, especially at that point, was pretty much rake thin, and I wouldn't expect a drudge to have a round butt like that

Spiff, I think these drawing are very good ...and I agree with Hans you most definitely have everything in all the right spots, and very nicely done.
I don't think she looks much like Lessa is discribed in the face but that is my personal opinion. A bit to much flesh on her bones if this is right after her first bath at the weyr.

I personaly don't know what a druges butt looks like and don't really want to think about it... so I will pass on making a comment on that part of your drawing... ...........

I didn't post that here? Sorry about that! If the first one you're referring to is a sleeping one, that was my first dragon/firelizard sculpture. The second, with wings half-spread, as DG said I made for Lady Legira for a prize on the KT.

At this point I'm not selling them, because I have very few finished pieces and I would rather build a base of work and more experience before I begin selling. And since I have so few, it would take a great deal to convince me to part with it (it was torture sending the firelizard away). If I were able to cast them, things would be different, but I don't currently have a way of doing so. My work tends to have lots of undercuts and hollow areas, I think it makes it look more realistic. But undercuts are killers for casting, it requires them to be either very complicated, or having it cut up and cast separately and then the casted pieces put together afterward. I really don't think I could bring myself to cut my original sculptures up.
