Default Master Harper's Journey...

This is my new *Birthday Portrait* of Anne McCaffrey,
as The Master Harper's Journey, with her favorite Pern horse.
Hopefully I have created a close enough Pern version, of her
beloved horse *Mr. Ed*, to at least give her a happy birthday smile.
Heres hoping that Anne, indeed has a very Happy 85th Birthday...
.

All my best...Lin Eicher [Lady Maelin]

I was thinking the other day (steady Peter!) that what a shame it was that Anne's knees no longer allow her to ride. Then I remembered a picture I once saw of a Tudor lady's saddle: sort of like an armchair turned sideways.

Wonderful!!! I can see why you said what you said in that other thread. I loved my gray jumping horse too and I know Anne will love this.

@P'ter. I tried a sidesaddle a couple of times, just to see if I could do it. Personally, I think bareback is easier than that. Traveller (my horse at the time) didn't like it either. It threw us both off our balance.

Gorgeous, Maelin! The background landscape detail is as stunning as the rest of the pic.

Is the background meant to look like the one valley near where Anne lives that she likes to show Pern fans as it has a very Pernese feel? Cause it completely reminds me of that spot.

Peter...but once again dear friend...do you like the portrait ?::?
Actually my mind has been similarly engaged in thought Peter, that is why with this portrait I drew her with her own horse....now she can go riding whenever she wants to...On Pern!

Samsara...Thank you kindly for your generous compliments, glad to have you here as a MoMer for this portrait

Audanna...Since it was for Anne's birthday, and Hans was actually taking it to her, I stopped my other projects and worked full time on this for about two weeks...it's always a true pleasure to do a portrait of Anne. I am very glad you liked this one, thank you for your comments.

Lily...Im so glad that you're enjoying this one...like I said above, it was a real pleasure to do this one...after all the other portraits I have done of Anne, I decided this one should have her horse in it...the rest just feel into place.

Cilla...thank you so much H.S for your comments....I'm so happy you enjoyed this one as well!

Mara...Thank you so much for your lovely compliment.

Sandi...my friend, I am so happy that you were able to see this portrait, especially with all that you have been going through lately. I did a lot of thinking about you while I was drawing it (not knowing you were in the hospital at the time)...and about how it is when a person really loves their horse...you loved yours, I loved mine and we all know that Anne really loved hers too. When you have that kind of love for a horse, it last a lifetime...here and on Pern as well.

Kath...Thank you so much for the lovely compliment...the background was a very special place...in Wicklow!!

Thank you Kugai......COOL at my age WOW!!

Rho...I'm happy that you enjoyed it...thank you kindly for your compliment.

Cheryl...Yes dear friend, I had a feeling that you would notice the background... it is a very special place in the Wicklow Mountians near Glendalough...one of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen from Ireland. I knew you'd enjoy this one...

I am hoping that perhaps with what I have drawn, Anne can recognize it...although there is not as much showing as I would have liked...but for me this portrait was as special as I knew how to make for Anne, and to help celebrate her birthday.

AnnMarie...Thank you so much for the compliment...Lord I don't really know how I get the ideas for my portraits......they just kind of happen after a few days of thinking on them...normally around 2 or 3 in the morning...then the idea takes over from there. Thankfully I have a very loving husband that gives me all the time, space and help he can, when I get going on an artistic tangent...especially when I have a deadline to meet.

Vlor...Thank you kindly for your lovely compliment...so glad you're a MoMer now, and here to see and enjoy this portrait...I promise that the others will be back up very soon as well.

Kevia...thank you for your lovely compliment...I'm very happy that you enjoyed it.

Well, I recognized it, and I've been there just once in my life. Anne's been countless times, so it seems likely that she would!

Lady M: of COURSE I liked your portrait. I wouldn't have posted anything at all if I didn't. I recognised the emerald green of Oirland but wasn't sure which bit. Some of County Cork is quite similar.

Blow that being Horseface: you've given her her own Pegasus!

Kat...Thank you so much for your lovely compliment...your thoughts to Anne's ear and eyes

Cheryl...I was so lucky to find the photo I drew the background from...I knew it was the just right one the minute I saw it. This is Martin's favorite of the portraits...he says the background brings Anne and her horse to life, that you can imagine the horse, the rider and the place are all real...as they all are, especially to those of us that truly love Pern.

Peter...thank you kindly my friend...I had a feeling that you did. Your right I hadn't thought about it...but Pegasus works well too...for those of us that love the *Talent* series too, as we do!

Peter...actually I don't think I'm talented enough or fast enough, for cover work. For me, my family always comes first, not an artsitic career.
I have always been happiest doing what I want to do, when I want to do it...not what is popular, or what is selling at the moment, or necessarily what others want me to do....so that keeps me happily doing what I love to do...especially for family, friends and here on MoM.

I, for one, have good reason to be very glad you do your art projects the way you do. I know Anne will be touched by this special picture. I know I dearly love seeing my little paint alive and "smiling" again every time I come in here. Not to mention all your Pern pictures that bring the books to life!

Sandi...I loved being able put you and your beloved horse on Pern, journeying always together.

I think that's a large part of the fun of it for me...not only bringing some of the characters to light, but being able to help some of the MoMers get to Pern as well.

For myself...I go to Pern and journey about, doing my artwork any time my mind leads me there...
