Default Great news from Tania Opland and Mike Freeman: New PERN CD!

Yay!

I just received this email from Mike and Tania:

Quote:
Hello Hans

Greetings from fluffy white snow-covered Anchorage, to all our long suffering and ever so patient mailing list members:-

Finally, at long last -- Not quite in time for Christmas/Chanukah/Solstice, (sorry, we tried!) but better late than never, the new CD collection of Menolly's music of Pern is on its way to the duplication plant --

It's now available for pre-order and will ship the moment we have copies:

SUNSET'S GOLD

Music from Anne McCaffrey's Harperhall novels, composed, arranged and performed by Tania Opland and Mike Freeman.

Song for Petiron
Sweet Sea (My Nightly Craft)
Gatheritza - a Nerat gather dance tune
Gather Day/The Harper's Glass
The Little Queen (Menolly's Firelizard Song)
Sunset's Gold (The Blackest Night / A Harper's Lament)
Equinox
Brekke's Cry
Run! (Menolly's Running Song)
Ghulees
Hatching Day
Four Hundred Turns - a previously unpublished Anne McCaffrey ballad

Featuring Guest musicians:
Philip Boulding (folk harp and valiha)
Harper Tasche (folk harp and bray harp)
Madeleine Doherty (concert harp)
Felicia Dale (hurdy-gurdy)
with additional vocals from:
Alicia Healey, Joe Prater, Toni Wood, Emily Groff, Felicia Dale and William Pint.

We expect to have the first shipment of this long awaited and exciting album available to mail out by the end of the year (THIS one!) and we hope to start shipping pre ordered copies by Dec 31.

To be among the first to receive yours, please follow the link from our home page at www.opland-freeman.com. You can order online or download a mail order form.

This CD is not yet available at any of our usual outlets, so for the time being our online store is the only place to get it.

Please pass this on to anyone you think might be interested :-)
Tania & Mike

So.. I AM passing this to all that are interested!

Here's the link you need:
www.opland-freeman.com

And YAY, they told me long ago they had asked and got permission to use Elizabeth Malczynski's wonderful artwork for the cover! An Extra Bonus!

NB: I was so eager that I didn't look around the board if somebody already posted about this! And lo and behold, Cavatica did, in the DRoP forum! Ah well, they can use all the atention they can get

Thanks to both Hans and Cavatica.

I got the email from Tania myself but being at w**k I couldn't post on any Forum's only read.

I ordered my copies straight away and it was my intention to post the news when I got home - then I noticed Cav's posts on both sites.

Can't wait for my New Year gift to myself.

I forgot to say, Mike told me a story about track 3 on this new CD. He wrote the words to this track as, "It's a gather. It's a" but everyone who sang it kept saying , "It's a gatheritza" and started referring to it as the "gatheritza" song. It looks like that's become the official title. It will be interesting to see what it says on the CD sleeve.

I'm looking forward to getting a copy.

Hmmm. Actually, that's Anne's lyric, "Gather, Gather, it's a Gather day ..."

I was an English English teacher, and I talk proper English English, not like wot you lot mostly does. So, when Tania started singing "Gather, Gatheritsa Gather day" I brow beat her into submission until she sang the words seperately so as not to sound sloppy - 'cos with that much deliberate repitition it would have been very wearing! She did that beautifully, but then I had to train and kick everyone else who came into the studio to sing on that track to do the same and it drove me mad for weeks. I even had to digitally edit one or two "Gatheritsas" from final takes before the mixing was done, and then I couldn't listen to the thing for days! So .. when we were looking for a title for that nice dance tune ...

Mike, sorry I didn't quite remember the story correctly until I played the Sunset's Gold CD. Elizabeth and I were both amused to see what you had called the dance tune. It makes a great title, and will bring a smile to those "in the know".

I dunno, P'ter, I wouldn't just forgive him like that. He's now an American, you know. Can't trust him like you could when he was from Manchester!

Besides, Mike, of course Tania doesn't tell you everything. Every woman needs to retain an air of mystery.

And what's this about an 'air of mystery'? I thought it was her BO basher.

Ha. Actually, I ain't no Murcin yet. The USCIS still hasn't got its act sufficiently together to schedule an oaf swearing appointment I can actually get to, so I'm still awaiting the final accolade of US citizenship.
Since I leave for Ireland in a week, I'll still be an untainted Englishman until at least August. Sigh.

Mike, when are you two going to be in Ireland?! We're there from Friday to Tuesday!

and anyway, if the US whatever is trying to get you into an oath swearing contest - they haven't met many Mancunians, have they?

As for your new tune - I can help you with the refrain - "wouldn't you like to know?"
