Default A couple of new finds!!!

I've just added a couple of new things to my collection and thought I'd share!

The first is one of 12 Review copies of THE COELURA. (many thanks to a tip from a friend about this!)

This is the outer front cover, it's got an interesting plastic binding with the goldish colored outer papers, basically card stock type paper. There is nothing to identify what this is on the outside other than some handwritten details, which I've got pictured next......

The pages are all hand numbered, there are NO pictures or any other detailed information like you normally find. There is ONLY the text that Anne wrote, as noted in the photo of the last pages.....

The first page is signed by Anne and you can see it starts right in with the text.....

There can't be many more items that deal with THE COELURA, but then again I thought I had them all till this came along!!!!

~~~~~~~~~
My second item is AN EXCHANGE OF GIFTS. I have seen a special edition for sale on eBay recently so started looking around for a less expensive copy and found this! It's not the signed, leather bound copy that was on eBay but it will do. There is a dust jacket and it's the same as on the ROC first edition. It is a limited run of 500 bound in red cloth (the interior front end pages are also red) with a pink bookmark bound in, but no signature, according to John Betancourt of Wildside Press. I emailed him asking about the copy that he has listed on the website, to see if it was the leather bound copy, and he gave me the information. The black leather bound copy is a very limited run and is signed and lettered. So now for pictures......
I have got to watch his website more closely!
Watching every aspect of the internet as a collector-hawk usuall pays off, Becky
Great items indeed, especially the Coelura "proof", which is very special indeed and, if I might say so, couldn't have found a more appropriate home with the Terran Coelura
Well done
I've got many new finds, I should start again posting about those, too (sorry, but I have been very busy during my spare time off lately)
I found that there are a couple of the An Exchange of Gifts on bookfinder.com too, but they want $45 for them! They're $25 at Wildsidepress.com. John didn't say how many copies he had left tho.
Hans - I think a lot of people have been very busy lately, including myself. (working on getting the collection in excel, tho I'm almost done!)
Great finds, Becky. I love The Coelura. It's a handy little "feel good" story to pull out when I need a little cheering up.
I have a little hardbound copy of Exchange of Gifts. Inside it says it was printed in 1995. The cover is similar to the one you have, Becky, but it has a Celtic design all around the outside edge. I took mine with me to Dragon*Con and had Anne sign it for me! My copy is not so fancy. No bookmark.
Becky, Glad to see you did indeed get it...I knew that you would love it to go with the rest of your very special collection. Gee I did know Anne had hand written inside of it...well that has to make it extra special for you.
I do love the Exchange of Gifts too....I have a couple of different versions of that too...but nothing as fine as this one you found.
Congratulations on being able to add both to your lovely collection.
P.S. Hans I most heartily agree , I think its time that the collections started rolling again...its been far to long since we got to see some interesting TREASURE!!!!
Edith, as book collectors we would be interested in other bookfinds too. Non-bookfinds would be harder to place in this forum but if it concerns your World War 2 collection I'd be interested in reading about it.
As for a certain book... am I still bidding or did I already win it?
ooh- though I think my copy was cheaper
recently I haven't done much shopping but I have:
a first edition Hornblower and the Atropos in gorgeous condition
a late 1940s Five Red Herrings in ok condition
I'm not going home for a few weeks but when I do I'll photograph some treasures
Though I do have one non-Anne spcial to me with me- and it's science fiction
Hi Becky, I was looking on ebay myself for the same book ("An Exchange of Gifts) - the copy I was looking at was slightly different though - and his asking price was fairly cheap - under $4US but his p/h was what nearly killed me - $168US, oh no...............
But I brought it and sent him a message, asking for a reduction on the p/h............
Guess what?...................................
The grand total of under $20US for one extremely and reasonably well worth it book. The dustjacket has a small tear at the bottom though and the hardcover has a blue cover with a red outline - about an inch thick - on either side of the spine. But well worth it.
SO I'M DOUBLY THRILLED FOR YOU TOO!
Jube - glad that you got a decent postage rate! Maybe they did a typo on the listing. I do enjoy this book and the other two small novellas that 'go with it'. Like Sandi said about The Coelura - they're a quick pick me up when you need one.
Edith - What did your Mum find???????????????
The same item as you won- I think- for 20p. It's nicer than the original so I might sell it on when I get to see it.
It's a UK 1st Dsong (ex lib)
I also got a rather interesting UK 1st TWD.
Now I won't get to see them for another 3 weeks but Mum compared them over the phone and the dragonsong is in lovelier condition- the pages are white for a start . The White Dragon has no dust jacket and is a little bit tired but it hasn't got the edges trimmed off.
In addition, and this is where I need ponderance, the top edge of the pages has been coloured yellow.
You didn't have to tell me the price you know...
Unless you want to make a quick few extra quid?
UK White Dragon hardcover? Don't you have enough of those?
I'll have a look in 3 weeks. I'm keeping the nicer of the two and I might sell you the other for a couple of quid as that is the most I spent on one of them (each of the job lot items even out at that) .
I sold one to someone at the UK gather.
For Becky and Lady Maelin, it was a typo mistake apparently! As I said previously, it was like "WHAT?????" Anyway, I've enjoyed my "treasure" immensely and now have all 3 short stories, 2 in paperback that I found in Melbourne and 1 hardback. Still trying to get some of the harder editions to find like "A time when" but that's out of my price range, unless I can sell a lot of books that I've cleared off my shelves like Stephen King or Bryce Courtenay. I did find 3 spare books by Anne McCaffrey that I doubled up on so if anyone's interested, "pm" me and I'll list them on ebay or do a swap perhaps.
Hi Hans (and for anyone who's interested)-
**The White Dragon - Corgi Edition, 1st published in 1980 by Corgi but doesn't give reprint details. This is the updated version with the white spine (not sure who did the cover art as it doesn't state on inside cover) and has some small wear's and tear's on cover/pencil marks on inside cover, I wouldn't call it "as new condition", more like close enough to extremely good condition. The inside has no problems though, no tanning etc....
**Crystal Line - Corgi Edition, 1992. Some wear and tear on cover edges and spine but inside is well looked after - does have a pen mark on inside cover. A very good reading copy (in other words, keep the good one on your shelf and keep this one as a spare copy to read). Well read but well looked after.
**The Ship who Sang (this is one of the books Cheryl has listed for our reading pleasure and picking our "brains", metaphorically speaking). Corgi edition, reprinted 1985, has some creases, wear and tear but as with all my books, I've tried to keep them in reasonably good condition, whether I brought them new or second hand, in some cases I LOVE my books so much that they're still in the bag, they came in when I brought them after I've read them for the 1st time. Mad, aren't I?
My price tags for books are usually about $5-15 each when I sell books on ebay, dependent on condition. Postage and handling to anywhere in Australia is $5.20 for 1st book, $6.50 for 2 books and 3 books or more, is dependent on where in Australia, I'm sending to. Overseas is about $12 for 1st book, $18 for 2 books and 3 books = $22, that's including a bubblewrap satchel as well. Anyway, hope that helps you out. For a straight swap, it depends on what we both have spares of that the other one wants.
I forgot to add that they're not currently listed at the moment so if anyone wants them, please let me know whether to list them on ebay or we swap books. Currently after several books myself but by another author. Also "The White Dragon" has a price sticker on the lower back cover of the book which has the place I brought it from and how much it is!
