I'm looking forward to this book almost as much as I was for Hans' "40 years of Pern" book! I bought Hans' book when I saw it mentioned of Anne's homepage and ordered it right away. I was so happy to read about other people who loved her work as much as I did. The best surprise was when I found and joined MoM, was that most if the people I had read about we're MoMers, partially my brother in another country, Hans. Here's to hoping that Todd's book will be a great one.

Missed this thread! They announced this originally last year at Dragon*Con which was a pre-emptive announcement since they didn't know who all was contributing to the project or when it was going to come out. It was a nice panel where memories of Anne were shared. If the book ends up anything like the panel, it will be worth the read.

You know at least TWO contributors: Jody Lynn Nye and me!

It's being published by Smart Pop Books, who have a page dedicated to Dragonwriter on their site: http://www.smartpopbooks.com/book/dragonwriter -- in a few more weeks it will have excerpts from each essay. The full list of contributors, in order of appearance in the book, is:

Todd McCaffrey
David Brin
Sharon Lee, Steve Miller
John Goodwin
David Gerrold
Robert Neilson
Elizabeth Moon
Robin Roberts
Lois McMaster Bujold
Wen Spencer
Bill Fawcett, Jody Lynn Nye
Mercedes Lackey
Elizabeth Ann Scarborough
Richard J Woods
Michael Whelan
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro
Alec Johnson
Angelina Adams
Charlotte Moore
Janis Ian
Georgeanne Kennedy

I can tell you, having seen the proof of the book (though not yet held one in my hands), that it is a moving, fascinating, hilarious, sincere tribute to the life of the Dragonlady. I am super-stoked to be a part of it.

Me too! Oh, and will you look at that—they finally got excerpts posted. Just the first few paragraphs of each essay; not enough to really gauge awesomeness. But they are awesome. Trust me. Michael Whelan's has PICTURES. Oooh, ahhh.

Soooo I got my copy today. Oh man. OH MAN.

I thought you all would be interested to know that Jody Lynn Nye and Bill Fawcett's chapter, "The McCaffrey Effect," is essentially a deconstruction/analysis of Anne fandom—and that MoM and the OKT/NKT both feature fairly heavily. Cheryl, Hans, Anneli, and Linda are just a few of the folks mentioned and/or quoted directly. Y'all are famous!

Wow, Charlotte, I got my copy today too! And mine was picked up by the kind Kindan ( from here ) who attended ComicCon and got my copy signed by Todd and others.

I knew what Jody was writing although I did not know how she would present her essay, of course. It is the only one I already read and while it is very nice I also shuddered because of the mistakes... But honesty bids me to say that other people probably might not even notice them, so no real harm done although it would have been nice had my name been spelled correctly

I am looking forward to reading the other contributions but also could not help the fact noticing absences, I would have included a few more if I had been editor, Steven Beard and Mike Freeman and Tania Opland among them. Ah well, you can't have it all.

I can tell you with certainty that Smart Pop had a long list of potential contributors, a list that may very well have originally included Steven, Mike, and Tania; I think that list was probably shortened by prior commitments and/or time restrictions. Some potential contributors may simply have declined for personal reasons. I really don't know.

I'm sorry there were errors! The book went through several phases of proofing; I know I got to review my essay two or three times before it was finalized. Their proofreader was diligent enough to catch errors in MY writing (I KNOW, right?), but sometimes mistakes fly under the radar. Either way, I thought Jody and Bill's essay was very interesting, and was happy to see so many of my friends included.

I just now finished it. She certainly left her mark, didn't she? As I was reading, some of the writers truly made her come alive for me, almost as if she were in the room and I could talk with her. I am very sorry I never had the chance to meet her. Like many others, I suspect, I never tried to write to her because I didn't want to disturb her creativity. From the sound of it, I should have.

As Todd Johnson said at the end, "No regrets." I miss her. I know we all do.

Damn fine book. I need to take it back now. As soon as the tears quit running down my cheeks.

I just finished listening to it and enjoyed hearing about Anne's influence in so many areas. She was an amazing person. Cavatica and Angelina's essays touched me personally for different reasons. It is a privilege to have been a part of something so amazing. I only met Anne once but I will never forget it and her. As often mentioned in the book, she was a "force of nature" that left this universe a better place.

I got my copy last week courtesy of a book token, but today had to take it back as starting at about page 120 every fourth sheet of paper had a ladder-like column of tears just in from the 'free' edge, caused by some form of mechanical handling.
