Default Todd near finishing new Pern book...

For those of you who are not subscribed to the Del Rey Internet Newsletter (DRIN) I've got some ews. Todd wrote a small article in it which reveals news about the next Pern book, which I think was to be called Dragonlove.

Quote:
I started writing Dragonheart on the heels of Dragonharper. I wanted to continue the story of Kindan and Lorana, which had begun in Dragonsblood. But as I progressed, I realized that I wasn't ready to tell that story and that, in fact, I had to lay some groundwork. A lot of this is because I realized that the story of Lorana and Kindan was a bigger story and need more characters for the telling. Six months into the novel, I decided to scrap most of what I'd written—it just wasn't working.

Having made that painful decision, I found that the book moved forward again, although it was much different from what I'd originally envisioned. For one, it was better. For two, it was bigger. And as I moved on with Dragonheart I realized that I didn't have just one but three novels in a tight-knit arc. I was wrong. As it turns out, I've got four.

Dragonheart tells the story of Fiona, Lord Holder Bemin's only surviving child, starting when she is almost fourteen, nearly twelve Turns (Pernese years) after the Plague. Of all the characters I've written so far, Fiona amazes me the most. She does things that I wouldn't have imagined, and makes them work in ways that has my head shaking in surprise and admiration.

Dragonheart is the longest book I've written to date. It needed the length to get Fiona's story told right. By the end of the book, I hope you'll find that Fiona has found a place in your heart, perhaps even as dear a one as Lessa's. And now that I'm nearly finished with the next book, I can tell you that Fiona's story will continue even as we reunite with Kindan and Lorana and the three of them grope for solutions to the huge problem facing all Pern—too much Thread and too few dragons to fight it!

Haven't heard anything about that (yet), Weyrbrat.

When Todd says finished that mean he hasn;'t sent in to the publisher yet. If they want tp publish the book it might come back with orders to rewrite and/or change, so it could easily take at least half a year before the manuscript is in the finished state... I woldn't be surprised though if they plan to publish it around this time next year... It might also depends on Dragonheart sales figures...

Well its feeling in a few gaps from Dragonsblood. Change from a green to a gold watch-wher for one.

Folks, Ginny's remark is on Dragonheart but is essentially a spoiler... so let's not go down that path here, please.

Well, what with the rather recent reprint of all of Anne's Pern titles in Poland I think it is only a matter of time, Asna, before Todd's books will be published.

Actually I thought that the co-written Dragon's Kin was published in Polih.

From the various articles and blogs I've read of Todd's, he seems to be throughly enjoying himself. He seems quite happy and excited, very willing to share that joy with anyone. Funny for the charactors seem to grab their 'creator' by the scruff of the neck saying ."ohh no, you are not taking me that way, this way we'll go."

I for one am enjoying Todd's books! His writing is certainly not Anne’s, but I really like the direction he’s taking. Also I know we aren’t revealing anything about the book yet... however I’d just like to say from where I am in Dragonheart that Todd hasn't made any mistakes and has kept true with everything written previously in his and his mother's books. I think everyone should at least give his books a chance… from the little I know and have heard about Anne if she didn’t like what he was writing, none one us would have seen it today… regardless of him being her son. Just some food for thought.

Yes, Pratchett is ofte on my mind He has my undying admiration for the humour he can incorporate in a book and I appreciate him even more since he started "coming out" in relation to his form of dementia and his efforts to break the tabu that is still existing around this illness. My heart bleeds for him Remember, I work as a public relations officer for an organisation that is active in the health field for the elderly and get more than my fair share of exposure to Alzheimer and dementia...

Yeah once done writing I have heard that it can still be over a year till book release, with no revisions.

I think a few more main characters are going to come into play. Right now we have M'tal, Kindan, Loranna, and Fiona. (Lessa, F'lar, Robinton, Jaxom) With a few more big roles, like Menolly, Sebell, F'nor, Master Smith (Fandral)?, and a few others.

We could have many adventures...

OH joy, more Loranna I like Kindan, but I really don't ever need to read another book with her as the main character. One go around was enough.

I'm in the middle of reading Dragonheart, and it's turning out pretty good so far (despite the occasional sign that Fiona might be another Mary Sue), so hopefully any next book will make Loranna more tolerable since Todd does seem to be improving with every new book.

Hans I'm not! She had a gold watch-wher in Dragonsblood no name is given at that time.

If you look a section of Dragonsblood show up in Dragonheat!

Along the way I came across something from Dragonseye/Red Star Rising
Benden's Lady Holder had just a wide band of an married woman, not all the rings Ian painted in
Bitra.
