Which Pern book is your favourite?

Mine has to be Dragonsflight or All The Weyrs of Pern... or perhaps The White Dragon...

I chose ATWoP. It was a very hard choice though but I think for ATWoP I liked the fact that there was now a way to bring everyone together in the common fight against thread and a real possibility that they might just be able to do it. Dispite the fact that Master Robinton died (and I cry everytime I read that part!! I was so mad at Anne the first time I read it even though I was bawlling!) I think it is a wonderful book

I voted for Dragonquest partly because I didn't think anyone else would I'm really split between that one and The White Dragon. Those are the ones I find myself turning back to most often. Of course once I crack one, I have to go back through all the others..........

Hard choice! I finally settled for DRAGONSINGER.... mostly because I like Menolly's character, and I like how she looks at things.

I may be the only one who's favorite is Nerilka's Story. I think it's because it's told in first person, it just feels much more personal and seeing Nerilka's life work out happily in the end, through her own eyes, is moving.

Dragonsdawn and Moreta run close behind Nerilka as favorites.

I don't have a single, true favorite. Dragonsdawn, White Dragon, Dragonsong run very close for me. Plus, my preferences seem to vary depending on my mood when I'm reading them.

Moreta, far and away, though I can see where you're coming from, Cheryl. I think it's partially because it's the first Pern book I read, and partially because it holds up best on repeat readings, even after I've grown up enough to see flaws in books, even books I enjoy. Moreta's just a wonderfully-constructed story, all the characters are well-drawn, and the ending is perfect and moving.

I chose The White Dragon for three reasons: it was the first of the series that I owned (not read), I'm in the planning stages of an essay on it, and I really like Ruth as my favourite dragon.

I can only pick one?! I picked ATWoP. I liked that they were working together to rid Pern of thread and how it showed their learning and changing with AIVIS. But I didn't like that Master Robinton died, I know it was right for the story and the time, but I was sad to see him go.

You are not alone I love Nerilka's Story for some of the same reasons and to see someone struggle with life's inequalities and come out on top. This story is so well written that it brought me to tears several times and I normally don't do that. I would love to read a followup about her daughter Moreta of Benden using that same first person style.

Rather a tough one for me. I really like the HarperHall trilogy since I do like Menolly's character, and of course, The White Dragon and anywhere else that Ruth shows up. Skies is good & I'd like to see the sequal to its story as it would give us some idea about what happens after Thread, but Weyrs is pretty much the culmination and climax of the Dragonrider's efforts to save the planet, so it has to get my vote.

This most definitely is a hard choice. But I decided to go with The Dolphins of Pern. I've only read a few lines so far whenever I pick it up, but I have to force myself to wait until its turn comes. Reading the books in chronological order, I'm currently on Dragonseye. I should reach The Dolphins of Pern by this summer though.

My pick is Chronicles....

I love the 'pioneer' stories and would LOVE to see more of them.

2nd would be Dragonsdawn, for pretty much the same reasons. I always reread in chronological order.

But I love all of them and when I decide to reread one, I reread them all.

Moreta, with Nerilka as a close second. I think it's because the solutions to the problems were so much more real. They had fewer solutions just handed to them, plot-wise, than the other books.

I picked Dragonflight because I loved the revenge plot in the beginning, reminds me somewhat of the good ol' days making life difficult for my evil stepmother It was a hard choice though, because I also love TWD because I can identify somewhat with Ruth (I get teased a lot for a wide variety of things, even stupid stuff people just make up). I also love the first two books of the HH trilogy because Menoly reminds me a lot of myself and my childhood (except for the whole music thing, but we have fairly similar personalities).

aarrrgh... youre gonna make me pick? Pick?!?!

Let's see... there's 17 choices.. hrmm.. any chance of picking all 17? Please?? *begs-grovels-whines*

okie, okie, i chose one, sheesh! lol, I chose Dragonsdawn.... but Ooooh, was that a rough-tough and generally durned near impossible choice! That's like choosing one of your own kids over another! lol

Everyone has already stated all the reasons why that was such an incredibly hard choice, and i had all the same heart-strings plucked with all those books too. But i like the pioneering books too. Thats one reason i so adore the Freedom series.

...wow, i need a tylenol after wrestling with all those choices...

I chose Dragonquest -- I love the knife fights and banishment and all that, and I feel it has a lot of action in it compared to some of the other books. Dragonsblood (not on the poll) would be my favorite right now, of course, and it's a strong contender to hold that honor indefinately.

I had to go with Red Star Rising. Not only does it have the coolest title ever... but there's one line in it that I love:

When Debora's father is trying to keep her from Impressing, her dragon yells in everyones mind "NO! He would hurt you! He would own you! You are mine, and I am yours, and no one comes between us!"

I found it very moving. It gave me chills when I read it ^_^
