Default Question on original (Weston) cover art

Hi
I joined this forum to ask a question about the cover art of Annes books. Many years ago while living in the UK i purchased a few pieces of original artwork by Steve Weston two of these pieces are the original paintings for the British Covers of DragonQuest and DragonDrums published by Corgi. As i no longer have room for them ( they are quite large ) i wondered if anyone knew of a gallery in the USA that specialized in this type of Fantasy work

Thank you for your help

Were you just thinking of loaning them out to a gallery, or selling them?

You could contact the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA)

As for selling them through a gallery... I would personally put them on eBay and cut out "the midde man". Weston SF/F art is pretty rare and might fetch a really good price. The drawback of rarity is that I have no idea of what the paintings might/should fetch.

Barry R. Levin might be able to help. He is one of the worlds leading dealers in rare and first editions of science fiction, fantasy, and horror with a strong emphasis on autographs, manuscripts, literary correspondence, and original art. He culd at least give you an honest estimate to the value if th paintings.

P.S. I would LOVE a picture of these originals, I'll never be able to affod these originals but I do collect (pictures of) cover art and books with a collection of McCaffrey books in many different languages standing over well 600. And I am not the only one who would love seeing the picturs without the "cover clutter"

You might even consider offering them for sale to Anne herself. She might or might not be interested, but it would be a nice gesture. Though I suspect you'd get more money by selling them elsewhere...

Oh WOW!!! The original art work....[FAINT] I can say for myself... that before I would sell either one of those incredible pieces.... I would find some room for that quality of artwork.
Its very sad that your having to get rid of it.

Ho hum.

Phil, do you have any prices in mind at all? And could you remind us all of their physical size?

Dragon drum is 20"x29" (matt is 26"x35")
Dragon Quest is 20"x30" (matt is 26.5"x36")

I had these up on e-bay 2 years ago for around $2600.00 each but i messed up the shipping to other countries so i took them down. Since then i have moved to Maine and have had little time to do anything with them. Shipping and insurance to the UK was around $150.each. In pounds sterling $2600.00 would be around 1650.00. But hey i am open to offers especially for them both as i would love these to go to someone who cares about the work of this artist and has some love for the Dragon books. I simply do not have any wall space to hang these beautiful pieces.

Welcome back Phil. Good to hear you want them to go to a good home. Won't be mine, unfortunately, but they sure are stunningly beautiful. I wish you good luck and a good deal.
