UK Gather! - A Meeting of Minds

As there's a lot of overlap between here and AMCF, many of you will already be aware that there'll be a UK gather taking place in Birmingham over a weekend in early october (5th/6th/7th). It's a fan-gather rather than an AMCF gather, so I'm advertising it here as well.

The sign-up sheet is here - if you're not a member of AMCF, register your interest in this thread on MOM, and we'll see that you get added to the list of attendees and receive all the relevant info.

What's being planned? Well, there are a few details here, and if we don't get to Cadbury World at some point I'll be personally rather disappointed!

ooh count me in! I've family in Birmingham too so I won't have to worry about accomodation as long as I don't come down with any colds (its not fair on my cousin to pass them on) Only problem might be in that its the 1st week of term, so I may have to cancel due to general chaos!

oooh theres the arboretum and the museum, I mainly know coffee shops

There's Millenium Point which includes Univeristy of First Age, Thinktank (Science Museum) & IMAX cinema.

There's also the Sealife Centre and the N.E.C. Shows on at the N.E.C. that weekend include Horse of the Year Show (3rd - 7th), Grand Designs (5th - 7th) and Combat Sports Show (6th - 7th).

oooh the Sealife centre- put me off eating plaice for life- the baby plaice were so lovely!

Trouble is that if I go to Birmingham it's with a professional organist and a singer turned teacher! So I know Symphony Hall- actually Mum graduated there, so thats not all due to shopping with my aunt, the cathedral, various churches he's played in etc
Last time I went was when the New Bull ring was opened though and that might've been during the music festival, so I haven't been for a few years.

Pass.

There're a few students interested in coming who're in the same boat, what with the start of the new term and all that. If time's an issue, there's always the option of arriving saturday morning and leaving early on the sunday, rather than making a whole weekend of it.

I might have to do that- trains from Aber are not good and it depends on whether they start lectures on the Friday or not! I'm missing the copenhagen thing cos its too close to the start of term but this is only a short train trip away!

Aber's right in the middle of the west coast of Wales. I'm pretty sure there are direct trains to Birmingham, and the best road route towards England also emerges up round that way rather than closer to Bristol. I think.

yep, there's an Arriva train from Aberystwyth to Birmingham New Street.

I've decided to come along anyway. It's on a Friday in any case, so I guess I could join up later that evening if it came to that. From where I'll *hopefully* be situated by then, the local train station is less than a 5 minute walk away...^^
