Matala?

Shike-y do-zey!

Spacedog wants to know if the room under the balcony is like an info place where they also sell stuff? (I'm not sure what he means exactly, I've just written the question as asked - think he means like a reception area).

Jube: no, not Matala (that woudn't stroke with the no answers to P'ter's South of an E - W line through Panaghia)

Spacedog: yes, they "sell stuff" (taken very broadly) and part of it is a reception area.

Cool Re: Where in the World #256

If we're going back to original questions, GT, mine will have to be .... Is it between Iraklio and Malia?

Hans, by that, I mean on the coastline between those 2 towns.

Figured I'd better log on and ask my own questions, Jube's feeling fiesty about it.

In relation to my last question, is it a bar? It's the only other thing, I can think of at the moment.

I don't have the map of Crete in mind at the moment (and no time to look for it, so I'll take a wild guess - Agios Nikolaos?

Tresa: no

Jube: *confused* Matala is south of the line mentioned by P'ter; so it couldn't be Matala because I said no to P'ter's question; anyway, it's not Matala.
As for your current question: no (not on the coast between Iraklio and Malia)

Spacedog: yes, it is a Greek taverna/hotel (hint: a famous one)

Lara: no (I think that town was already mentioned)

Okay, no worries and in regards to going to original questions, as GT set herself a reminder, so did I - mainly to get my brain to think outside the square or lateral lines no confusion from me on that regard, merely thinking out aloud.

I actually photoshopped out the name of the taverna because that was a dead giveaway.

Well, the only movies I can think of is "Mamma Mia" and "James Bond - for your eyes only" that were filmed at Crete so I'll go for the Taverna that was filmed in Mamma Mia?

Both PM's are incorrect (same answer).

However, and I didn't know this, the Taverna name in the incorrectly mentioned TV series has the same name as this one: The Ferryman Taverna. However this taverna was only named that AFTER the TV series. Actually, the TV series was so famous that the little town of XXX didn't become famous until AFTER the TV series!

So, we're still looking for the place where this Taverna is.

I know it isn't a recent series (what you wrote might go for this one too, Jube) but is sure was a famous one!

By the way, that's my wife in the picture, on the right.

From Wiki ...

Quote:
Who Pays the Ferryman? was a television series produced by the BBC in 1977. The title of the series refers to the ancient religious belief and mythology of Charon the ferryman to Hades. In ancient times it was the custom to place coins on the eyes of the deceased before cremation so that the deceased could pay the ferryman to go to Hades.

The eight-part series was written by Michael J. Bird.

Thirty years after he had fought alongside the local resistance (andartes) during the Second World War, and after his boat-building business is bought out, an ex-soldier returns to Crete to take stock. He finds the ghosts of the past waiting for him there, and those who would do him ill. The shadows of his past interrupt and threaten his present happiness.

Stand by what I said about being a twinkle not even being born yet

The series "The Lotus Eaters" was also written by Michael J Bird and was filmed in 1972/1973 where as MJB brought "Who pays the Ferryman?" out in 1977.

I still got the name of the taverna right though, just the wrong town .
