Me? Menolly, shes around my age, she overcomes alot of obstacles to get to her dream of being a Harpers. She overcomes the prejudice against women and female Harpers. She has Fire-Lizards (yeh I know that is greedy, but I wub de Lizards!) I love music, and of course, she meets and is friends with Piemur and Sebell, and Robinton! Some of the best people in Pern! (holds Robinton plushie proudly)

So basically
Go Menolly!

Oh my lord I can't believe I never really posted in this Thread!

I'd probably be F'lar to tell you the truth.

Apart from the fact my eyes seem to shift to amber on regular occasions I grew up with one parent who is always pushing me to do the best, thus forcing me to mature too early. :irked:
I'm also quite shy and reserved, particularly around big and close-knit groups, even when I get to know them. I'm strong-willed and analytical too and, yes I admit it, I have been arrogant once or twice! I do well with responsibilty so I wouldn't mind the responsibility he takes on.
But underneath I do care a lot and those few that are really close to me I love dearly . Also, once I get past the shyness I have a rather unrepentant cheeky streak and a very dry albeit playful sense humour! So, apart from gender issues I'd like being F'lar. Plus the fact I'd get my beautiful Mnementh! *huggles Mnemi plushie*

And I'd probably like being Lessa...most of the time. I can be fiesty and short-tempered, am incredibly short and also very much in love with F'lar

I'm just not as amorous as he is...

Hmmm...

To be honest I'm not entirely sure as to which character I'd rather be. If I wanted a 'good' life I'd probably be Zair, Robinton's Fire-lizard. -Grins- That way I can get away with eating too much, I can fly around, and I get to perch on Robinton's shoulder more or less whenever I want to.

Probably either Piemur or Jaxom.

But If I were to play one, then it would probably end up being Lord Groghe.

Menolly, without hesitation!

We're very alike, by our behaviour. She wants to do her best, she likes singing, she's an easy mark (me too =__=) at least at the beguining.

AND she has 9 firelizards (and Sebell, lucky girl). No, I'd definitly be Menolly ^^. Plus I come from a city on the seaside ^^

Well, Ghyle stole my first, obvious answer, so I came up with my top two...

Sebell and F'nor.

Sebell is like Robinton, yet he has lived amongst the hillsfolk more. And F'nor has the same sort of love that I feel for my mate...unyielding, but gentle, furious, yet caring. F'nor also acts as an anchor of several people's relationships, and I do that a lot IRL...

F'nor, if I had to chose a canon character.
Canth, cause he's great.

Kira, Menolly has ten, though I'm rather vague as to how she got Poll, her third bronze. I think it had to do with an inopportune (or opportune, depend on POV) Hatching while she was bringing the egg to the reciepiant.

Why do people think M'hall's creepy?

That's mentioned, either in Dragondrums or, I'm pretty sure, The White Dragon. Menolly gives some comment about how she was trying to hand the egg to that addle-pated grandchild of Lord Groghe and the firelizard fell back into her hands...

Anyway, the quote you are looking for is in The White Dragon:

Quote:
Menolly shrugged. "Someone who turned out to be Mirrim. Oddly enough, her fire-lizards never uttered a chirp of objection. No, I think the partnering was as much . . . well, destined to be as you and Ruth. Not at all like my acquisition of Poll. As if I needed another fire-lizard." She grimaced ruefully. "But his shell cracked just as I was passing him to that addle-handed child of Lord Groghe's. He's never faulted me, and the child got a green. A bronze would have been wasted on that brat!"

I've always wanted to be a Mary Sue, so I'd be Lorana.

Just kidding! Actually, I'd want to be Iantine, or maybe a girl version of him if I have to stay female. Being able to pursue art full time, and be world renowned to boot? AWESOME. Or I'd be Aunt Temma from Renegades. I know that's not anybody's favorite book, but she was a pretty cool character: self reliant, well traveled, and able to fight off hostile holdless when required.

Oops, necroposting! Sorry!

M'hall, K'vin, or F'lar.

M'hall because he's the most brilliant bronze-rider (or rider in general) ever, for simply figuring out how to keep track of when golds would rise through the use of a calendar. (Yes, there's heavy sarcasm there.) And Torene Ostrovsky would be a good mate. [Apparently being smarter than the average dragon rider "creeps" some people out, but I'll take smart any day.]

K'vin because the guy has his act together as a Weyrleader and his priorities in the right place. Pretty much a responsible and model Weyrleader in spite of his youth. I've always been partial to dark-haired older women (ironically my wife is younger and blonde--go figure), so Zulaya would be a good mate.

F'lar because I can understand his obsessive drive to get the job done and not just adequately. I'm also stubborn enough and have my life populated with enough difficult females to handle Lessa at her worst with the same unflinching clarity.

I have decided that I would be one of the dolphins. They do not need to worry about thread and get to be around dragons a lot. They are also very helpful and can make anything a game. I would have to be one from the 9th pass.

Asgenar, for me. He's not stuck in any mode of thought, loves trees and the outdoors, thinks of his peolpe first (hence firewood), sticks to one woman who loves him, knows to praise the people who work for him and has a firelizard.

T'gellan or K'van for me.

K'van, because he's the character I most identify with, and he's mature, stubborn, determined, and a strong leader.

T'gellan because he's mature, a good leader, and I think Mirrim is awesome. Especially after she settles down with T'gellan. I think I could deal with her too.

Debera or Mirrim, for sure.

Debera because she rode up on horseback like a freaking OUTLAW in the OLD WEST and immediately Impressed an awesome dragon who, at five minutes old, chewed the face of the guy who tried to separate them. That whole "will-they-won't-they" thing with Iantine was pretty good, too: "Oh baby, I totally want to rip your pants off but I can't because it might destroy the pre-pubescent mind of my other half." What? Go on, do it. Who knows, I might like it. "?!"

AWESOME.

And if not Debera, Mirrim, because of that whole "misunderstood misanthrope" chip on her shoulder thing she's got going on, and because she, too, broke some serious ground with her "Screw you, I'm a girl on green, bitches" thing. Bumping uglies with a hot bronzerider and essentially getting to be the Weyrwoman without any of that standing-around-tending-eggs-for-a-month crap is a pretty sweet bonus, too.

Zulaya's an interesting character, but we don't know a whole lot about her; and Moreta's pretty cool for a lot of reasons, but she had a bit more angst than I like. And, also, because I'm not so much on that whole "tragic premature death" thing.

Menolly for me, too - apart form the love of music I happened to read my first Pern story ("Dragonsinger", out of sequence I discovered after I read it) at a time when I was going through some hard times - I just found myself identifying with her confusion, lack of confidence etc...that bok got me through some rough times.

How did I miss this thread? Anyway, here I am.

Do I have to keep my same species? If not, Canth, because he's so cool and heroic. He overcame every obstacle set in front of him with flying colors. He rules, he rocks, and all of the above. Canth's got the right balance of brawn, brains, and beauty. Canth, too, broke some serious ground and "rules" by NOT staying within some of the socially-accepted limitations imposed by his color.

I want to adopt him. He can come live in my driveway (I don 't think that he'll fit in the garage, or the house). F'nor can stay in a nearby cave- he might be more comfortable there. :-)

Also, I saw Desdra from Moreta mentioned. Now there's a cool character- she's fiercely independent, and very very good at what she does. She is known for her skills, not "Capiam's girl Friday" or something.

While we're in the Healercraft. . . Oldive. Who has lovely dark eyes, and is known for what he can do, not what he can't.

I'm really surprised that someone picked Brekke, what with all the tragedy. Although were it not for the death of her queen, she'd be an awesomely fun option.

Along the same vein, I'd choose Kylara. All the advantages of a queen rider with a greenrider lifestyle.

Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking. Plus, you know that when Morath matures, Deb and Iantine are going to have fantastic sex. I want to be her.

Or Oklina. The whole plague thing sucked, but as someone said, she gets to ride a queen at the END of the Pass, and she gets B'lerion, who's been my Pern crush since I was thirteen.

Hmm...

Debra would be tempting, except that for some strange reason Iantine doesn't do much for me. Mirrim's a good possibility, for being the first female green rider in a long, long time doing well in a tough situation and just for being very competent. Plus, as Cavatica put it,
Quote:

But the whole part where an awful lot of people didn't like her much is a major drawback. Menolly is also awesome, getting to really realize her dreams and be all creative and coming into her own really well, and being surrounded by all that wonderful music at the Harper Hall (plus having musical talent I only wish I had) and having all those firelizards. But despite all that, I'd rather be a dragonrider than a harper.

So when it comes down to my final choice, I'd have to go with Torene. First Weyrwoman of Benden, yeah! Intelligent, pretty, a little bit mischievous, good leader, and has an awesome dragon. And I like M'hall (don't know why people think he's creepy).

Or perhaps, a 9th pass version of Moreta, with her able to heal, added with eith a green/gold dragons, and working relationship with a dolphin like Dar.

I'd probably have picked Nerilka since she's the character I most closely identify with. Menolly would probably have been my second choice, to live a life of music and have a whole fair of firelizards (um, if I was a Tiny Toons character I'd be Elmira; I'm just a tad pet happy lol).
