Default your Pern name

Has there ever been a thread about someone making their own Pern name. I know some have with their names when they write. I know mine sounds like a firelizard's name.

My Pern name is actually a form of my middle name, and the name of the first persona I created.

The first character I made for Pern was called 'Tath'. -Rolls eyes- Evidently, I'd by this time not really read much of the series. ^^;

Though now, my newest persona is all there and set...but without a name...I'll have to think of one.

I tried to make the names of my two firelizards... Nica and Dain, sound like they lived on Pern...but also tried to incorportate my two Grand-daughers names into it.

I have four, all characters I've played over the years.

The first(and fave) is the name of my first RP/story character, who has undergone a few changes over the years. Her name's Folara and she's always had a blue flitter called Dizzy(who's also my own firelizard, the one seen on my portrait).

The second is dear to me as well, as she's somewhat closer in many ways, not including shared first name letter. She's Seliana, rider of brown Mnemith and owner of bronze Cheeky.

Then there's my two most recent; Sango, rider of blue Mirokuth and owner of gold Tarni, and Calli, rider of golden Quinth (a rather "evil" little queenling I might add ).

Oh and then there's my current favorite SSW character, K'san, prankster genius, weyrling to bronze Inuyath and owner of the diabolically crazy brown Neko. I just had to add him because I adore the character so much.

My persona is a dolphineer. I joined the craft after dolphins Kibbie & Alanta rescues my mother & I when our ship sunk. My father died in the ship wreck. By the way that is how my daughter got the name Kibbie.

You could always try combining your parents names, Maw.. or go look at a name site and find other forms of your given name. www.babynames.com is good, as is www.babynamer.com, though there's a million others.

I'm Headwoman Jamaillia of Southern Weyr and my firelizard is Grana. I had just finished reading Robin Hobb's Six Duchies tales, hence the name. It also sounds very Pernese. Grana is obvious, I think.

Well, my real name is Sara...and for the sake of ease (since my newest persona would be based on myself) I would have used that name...but something rings a bell...Is there not a child called Sara mentioned in The White Dragon? >.<

I used to wonder a lot about my dragonrider honorific (because, obviously, I'd Impress on Pern LOL). I figured that my real name on Earth would translate to something akin to D'nic, D'min or something like that, although my middle name would make D'war.

Combining my parents' first names would make concoctions like Berry, Beron, Verry, or the like (Barry and Veronica in case you were wondering!). Although as I am the youngest of 4 boys, the obvious ones would probably have been taken. Even adding in my grandparents names of Norah, Eric, Eva and Robert you don't get something entirely Pernese.

I have made up names for fanfics and things, but since I don't actually have the names to hand (I had trouble with my old laptop which is with the 'fixers' - I have a new one now with Vista but don't have Works yet to install Word to read what I need to) I can't share.

I'm DLing it now. I am used to Word which is why I usually use it. I am also used to Windows which is why I can't really get to grips with my partner's iBook - Apples always seem great, but there is something about them I find a bit ...... clinical. Which is probably just me being a bit of a berk!

But now looking forward to using OpenOffice!

Self-insert Mary-Sue characters aside [yes, honestly, I'm just as bad as everyone else. No prizes for guessing who it is.], I don't have a Pern name...

Going by the usual tradition of a combination of the parents' names, I guess it'd be something like Irianne.

Mmmm... My Pern name... Well, my sis would have ended up being called Lehen, my older brother could have been called Drikel and that leaves me with Eidri and gods forbid that they bred any others after me!

But I could probably come up with at least twenty variations that sound vaguely Pernish...

Ah... and then I forget, there is also my fanfic character who's not a self-insert 'cos she can't read or write to save her life.

Her name is Shaya, rider of "sort-of" gold Suteth (and don't shoot me 'cos it's not entirely canon). The idea came to me one day and wouldn't let go, so I ran with it and my readers seem to be enjoying it so I think why the hell not.
