![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yes, it can be a bracelet or a bookmark. Pernaficadio was the one who got me going with it. Poor Shalyn has too much to do and not enough time to do it so this is my variation on the idea. To the question of weaving, yes it's hand-woven and no looms in sight, other then using a chopstick and stickytape to hold it down, long enough to get completed. I call it free-weaving due to no looms. Feedback and questions welcome. I'll answer to the best of my ability. The photos, of course, don't do justice to it but it's to give everyone, an idea of what it looks like.

Ginnystar, thank you!
Hans, not sure on the camera functions as hubby's the camera fanatic and I'm still trying to work it out. I have better results using the scanner. I'll use that and put up another image when I get a chance to do so! Well here goes.... ![]() Shalyn, how can one resist temptation? I'm usually am "damned" at some stage in life, ![]() ![]()

Thank you, my lady. With adding beads to it, roughly 45 minutes per inch/2.5cm. Nearly 7 inches long so equates to over 3 hours. It's a lot of patience and time-consumption. If there's no beads, probably 1 to 2 hours depending on how many threads I use. This has 15 threads of 150cms long, each "stitch" is double knotted (basically that means when you "knot" it, each one needs an under "knot" then an over one so you get 2 knots on the same strand and continue on down the row). Each row uses about 8-9cm of thread. This is my only form of weaving so I can't answer questions on normal forms of weaving as I wouldn't be able to answer fully how to do them.
Here's the back of it... ![]() Hope that hopes with the understanding of the double knot. If I could do a video of it, then I could show what I mean properly by this. I'll have to get hubby's help on it and then start on a new one. If it looks a little dodgy in areas, that's where the beads are.

is it the camera, or are those quite a bit bigger than seed beads?
It looks very lovely, jube and I am glad to have inspired you! I think you need to get that video made up so I can understand what you mean. because you have given me an idea using the weaving and seed beads. I think they would lie flatter and smoother against the weave, and you could really enhance the details of flame and dragon. |

The seed beads are the 3mm version, hence the small gaps one sees on the "back view". The 1-2mm was too small for the thread I was using.
The video will have to wait until the weekend as shiftwork has seperated hubby and me for a few days.

Yes Jube....that does answer my questions. I had no idea that they were so intricate to make. They are very lovely, especially now that I know how much work goes into them. Keep up the good work, and I would love to see one in each of our Pern dragon colors.

Thank you - it was a lot easier, scanning the bracelet in then trying to take photos. Actually all this got me thinking as to when I learnt this and as far as I can recollect, this was about 20 years ago when I was in high school, back in the days before decent Internet, mobile phones etc as forms of instant communication and fact finding came into being. So now I went "fact finding", bearing in mind I had to work out what the proper name for this type of weaving because it's been awhile since I've done it. The name is....friendship bracelets
![]() And viola, I don't need to get hubby to do a video for me, it's already been done ![]() http://www.expertvillage.com/video-s...pbracelets.htm It was also found in.... http://www.parentingteens.about.com/...riendship1.htm *shows how to do the knots. www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/friendship_bracelet *this gives some history on how it came into being. I originally thought it was from Mexico but the Native Americans had the monopoly on it as well - I must have belong to the 1980's fad/craze, ![]() One last thing folks, please bear in mind, that this was done in friendship, I'm not out to gain anything except for pleasure, mine as well as others. So I'll thank you all for the compliments and hope I can produce some more to share with you all. ![]()

Nearly finished the 2nd one. Work commitments got in the way.
List of those who have asked for one ![]() *Topaz *Sjslack For those interested, I've priced them at $4 Aussie dollar plus $2.20 p/h which covers most countries (Europe/America being the dearest, postage wise, Asia/New Zealand being cheaper). Although I'm happy to exchange crafty stuff for crafty stuff especially if it's dragon or Pern related! ![]() ![]()

Jube, they're fantastic! I'm a beader also, and I love making jewelry etc.. It never occured to me try something like this, but its a totally different style of beading to what I do... I might have to give it a go.... but I think it's a bit too intricate for me to do well. What do I have to do to get you to make it for me????????

Okidoki, Platinum. I've done 2 different ones so far and onto my 3rd one.
Now as to why photos haven't been put up, is due to having some bits and pieces taken awhile back (that's in a seperate thread) and my camera was one of the items. Then my scanner had a hissy fit and as a result, I had to patiently wait until the insurance company came through with a new camera as well as working out why my scanner had a hissy fit. Yikes! Anyway things are progressing okay to a point where I'll be able to put photos up soon so good things come to those who wait ![]() ![]()
