Default Adding to and redecorating the house

Some of you might remember that I had a dormer window put up on my house and that I have been working on the interior of the attic (where my son has his room) since... For the insatiably curious (like me!) I;m putting up a few pictures.

Alright, first the back of the house (my house is one in a row) looked like this:

Then the builders came and after some work with a (special) chainsaw I suddenly had an alarmingly big hole in my roof. They started out with sunshine but of course it started to rain lightly the moment the hole was made

The three men worked really hard, can;'t say anything else, and before you could say "do you want a cup of soup" they already had the structure up and started to finish the roof and woodwork.

When that was finished they "walked the prefabricated set of three windows up the ladder" fitted in the structure they build and started on the finishing inside and outside,

leaving me with a completely finished dormer window in about six hours! I took the same picture as the first and the house now looks like this:

They left the insides unfinished (except for what belongs to the window) as I wanted to finish that myself. So over the last month I build a wall, made a lowered ceiling and started on my son's room. Making a desk under his windwos (the big middle one and the "fall in and turn" window on the right).

I had the room carpeted and my brother (who is an electrician) did the wiring and part of the lighting. My wife and I painted the room and yesterday. I out the his bed back in and yesterday we went to Ikea to buy the showcases for his collection of model farming equipment which is, as you can see, rather large (and this is not all!).

I still have the blinds the put up and the spot lighting above the wide des, which he'll use as his desk (computer will go on the left) and working bench for his work on miniature farming equipment, tractors and such. I also have too put up shelving for his books on the wall opposite the showcases and put the already bought door in (as one of the main reasons for building a new and bigger room was to give him a bit more privacy).

At the top of the stairs we'll still have a windows and room enough to put washer and dryer and storage space, and maybe a few extra bookshelves...

Six hours???????? Around here you'd be lucky to get all that done in six weeks!

Your son's miniatures are fascinating. I guess collecting runs in the family?

Thanks for the compliments!

The company that does the dormer window garantuees it'll be done in a day, meaning a working day, so 8 hours. Mind you, there's three men working together like a well oiled machine. So 6 hours times 3 is actually 18 working hours, right?

Hmm, never thought about collecting running in the family. Our family does have its packrats, yes. Of which I certainly am one. But while my son collects miniatures, books, magazines and everything that has to do with agriculture my wife doesn't really collect anything except crime novels/thriller. Apart from books I virtually stopped my other collecting habits. The only collection I still have but am not adding to is money (paper as well as coins, but not at random).

WOW Hans!!! That looks just marvelous. ...what a window. I bet your son will love working on his computer with that great view to enjoy now, and enjoy his new improved "PRIVATE" room. The Tractor Collection, is fabulous...one that he will probably always enjoy.

Those must have been some great workers to have done all that work in such a short amount of time. I agree that here that would have taken weeks to finish...along with a ton of money for the job.

So that was what the grunting, groaning and hammering was all about...Whew!!!... I bet your really glad that it is all most finished.... It sure looks fantastic!!!

::jaw on floor:: Ok, now I know I'm just a lazy bum. That's really great. Whenever I try to clean something up I just end of with a humongous mess (which I clean up in the end.) But, your room doesn't look cluttered at all either! The display case (I love IKEA) is a wonderful solution. I wish I had done that with my beanie babies when I was little.

Oh, wow. That's great!

Here, just getting planning permission for a change like that would take months.

Aha, but that took me months too, granath! Before I had the permit from the minucipal engineers and planning commission almost half a year went by, especially as they thought they could refuse...

I thought that might have been the case.

OT, but never mind. There's a pic for you in the DelRey covers thread, Hans.
