Default News: Lady Maelin (Linda Eicher) illustrating for the Pern Encyclopedia!

This newsitem just went up over at the Pern Museum & Archives:

Linda Eicher illustrating for the Pern Encyclopedia
To members of the Anne McCaffrey discussion board A Meeting of Minds she's already a legend: Linda Eicher, the artist that made over thirty potraits of her fellow members, and of course Anne McCaffrey. Among other projects Linda was responsible for the art on the cover of the special binder and the portrait that was presented to Anne on her 80th birthday, was the artist for the 2006 LA Worldcon T-shirt project and the same goes for the 2007 Eurocon T-shirt project. She has her own gallery of portraits on A Meeting of Minds.

Linda's work is respected and much admired by Anne fans in general and Pern fans in particular. Thus we are extremely happy to announce that Linda will be starting a series of portraits for the Pern Encyclopedia, portraits of People of Pern that haven't been covered yet by that other Pern artist, Robin Wood, who so kindly gave us permission to use her artwork to illustrate the encyclopedia. The new series by Linda is opened by a wonderful portrait of Sallah Telgar, a true hero of Pern who'se portrait was sorely missed and will forever take pride of place. Keep checking this frontpage where we will be announcing the new portraits as they are finished and added. We welcome Linda on the Editorial Board for the Pern Encyclopedia!

Here's a small part of the complete portrait/scene that is to be found on the S page of the Pern Encyclopedia

I love love love the full Sallah picture, it captures and represents her just right. Looking forward to seeing more as you work on them! And Hans' Encyclopedia is a great place to house them.

Thank you all sooooooooooo much for the lovely compliments. ...and the acceptance of my portriat of Sallah Telgar.
I was a bit hesitant (scared to death) to show this to everyone, when I finished it...as each of us have our own ideas of what Pern, it's People, its Dragons and it's world looks like....but as soon as I showed it to Hans and Cheryl...they asured me that I had indeed captured Sallah's likeness....WHEW!!!
I hope that I can continue to do more portriats for Hans, Pern Encyclopdia with the same care given to the details that Anne discribes in her fantastic storys that we all know and love so well.
I do not intend to re-do any of the characters that Robin did so exquisitly in her book "People of Pern" that we all also know and love. I am going to do my best to honor Hans and Cheryl's faith in me and my artwork to try to bring you more of the characters that we haven't seen so far, except in our minds eyes.

I have had quite a bit of help picking out the faces to use...and sugestions of things to put in the background to enhance our view of Pern. Thank you so much for all the help Cheryl, Hans and Becky.

If you have any suggestions that you think might help me in doing this project...please let me know. I very much need ideas and good photos from the internet, that would be helpfull for drawing any of the other characters that haven't been drawn already.

SUGESTIONS WOULD BE WELL APPRECIATED...AND VERY HELPFULL!!!

Thank you all so very much for your continued support of me and my art work...with out a doubt...you are the very best friends anyone could every hope to have

Not a true illustrator? Not a true illustrator?! Maelin how could you say that!

I reckon you could re-draw the whole DF graphic novel and make it come out fan-bloody-tastic!

Lady M: I can appreciate the distinction you're drawing (sic).

Sammy: most illustrated novels involve a team of artists, usually each specialising in one aspect. One will only do backgrounds for instance. sometimes the hero and heroine are drawn by different artists. If the book is the work of only one illustrator then usually the quality of artwork is pretty crude (in terms of technique) as you could only give yourself a very limited time to produce each frame. This is not Linda's métier.

Lady M produces true works of art, allowing each piece the time it needs for perfection. But a book containing her art would be a wonderful thing to have. (hint, hint, hint)

@ Sandi, I couldn't hazard a guess of how I would even begin a project like that...and because of Cheryl's... and now Hans kindness, all of my Pern work has the most fantastic of homes...and everyone can see them for free.
I just love doing the work, if they ever get published into a book, it will have to be by someone else who knows what their doing... !!! Thank you though for your very kind compliments. ..besides if I ever decided to have it published...I would have to do a few more member portriats to have it complete...hint, hint, hint
