R'na, I can help you here as I have a copy of said book. Mine has illustrations around the text, as well as full page illustrations throughout the book. The illustrations are of a "pen ink" version (from what I've seen of other "pen ink art", this is probably the most apt description, I can give you). If I get a chance to "photobucket" some photos up, I can show you, unless someone beats me to it.

Jube, there should be options to select Thumnail or Forum size in the editing section on photobucket. Your sig pic is thumbnail size, to give an idea how small that is.

As I said before Tresa, I'm still working it all out but thanks for the help, I'll try it and see what happens. (I edited them but I may have to change above details so it comes out smaller, as I'm not sure if they gave new tags for it.)

For R'na and Topaz, glad to point you in the right direction. It was something I picked up on eBay last year but never got round to saying anything about it until now. So thanks R'na for giving me a chance to *show off*.

The illustrated hardcovers of Rescue Run and The Dolphin's Bell (both short stories appearin in Chronicles of Pern : First Fall were both published by Wildside Press (there are several editions, among them signed, limited ones) and as SFBC editions.

The more common ones both are regularly up for sale on eBay, the limited and limited, signed ones are not

Hans, how would we know which is which? Now I'm curious if my copy is a regular run-of-the-mill copy or an extra special limited edition?? I've solved R'na's question, now I've got one of my own to ask ! What does SFBC mean? Thanks.

I just realised my photos have come up smaller. Thanks Tresa, you're an absolute gem, it did work after all and I hope that's better for everyone who's come in for a sticky-beak!

SFBC = Science Fiction Book Club.

If you have the limited edition, it'll have a page or plate in it near the beginning indicating as much (I forget which, would have have to go get my copy to check which I'll do a bit later).

Cheryl - turns out mine's just an everyday-run-of-the-mill version. O well, it's still worth showing off for those who've never seen a copy until now!

Pat69La - glad to hear you like it. We do try and help each other out. If you haven't seen something before, all you need do, is ask! Someone will have a copy. In R'na's case, I was able to help out then as this thread went along, GT helped me so it does get passed around.

Too right, Hans.

Currently only 3 on list at moment,

**a 3-in-1 "Dragonharper of Pern" (that's Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and Dragondrums) - I think Baen or Del Rey published it as I have 3-in-1 "Dragonriders of Pern" (Dragonquest, Dragonflight and the White Dragon -in hardback minus the dustjacket though which I'm peevish about it as I like to keep everything intact where/when possible),

**A Time When - what do you expect with a limited print run?

**The 3rd one.....I've temporarily misplaced my list.....back in a jiffy when I can find it.

I don't usually have problems with paying for items, except if they're out of my budget (prime example is "A time when" - I have been waiting for years to get a copy of this one and still haven't got one yet! So I fully understand those "bugbears", Hans.)

Jube, I think you're meaning the Harper Hal Trilogy with the one you first mentioned? That was published by the SFBC (Science Fiction Book Club) and actually a cheap book as it is offered relatively often.

A Time When... hm yes, that would be several hundred dollars at least, provided you find one. The ones always on sale (and almost never sold until a nutter comes along) are pricef over $575-$600 which I think is far too much. A limited (800 copies) ru like that should sell for anywhere between $150 to $300, seen as it isn't new material but just selected chapters from what later was published as The White Dragon.

My wishlist is mercifully short

UK hardcover Dragonflight (Rapp & Whiting)
US hardcover Dragonflight (Walker)
UK hardcover Get off the Unicorn

plus some assorted paperbacks for variations of cover art and many, many foreign language editions. Oops, still a long list it seems

OK, recap on Rescue Run editions...

There's a frist printing by Wildside Press of 288 copies
the first issue of this edition is 260 copies bound in white, plastic coated paper (ten copies marked PC (presentation copy) and numbered (1-12) and 250 numbered (1-250)
the second issue is 28 copies, bound in red plastic-coated cloth with silver lettering; of tis there are 2 PC's (numbered 11 and 12) and 26 copies lettered A-Z

The second printing is bound in green plastic coated cloth with lettering in blue (SEE picture). There are 500 copies in this run and it is a stated second printing.

The above are all signed by Anne and the illustrator Pat Morissey and published by The Wildside Press.

Further there are the Science Fiction Bookclub editions, hardcovers with a dustjacket which does bear the name of the original publisher on the spie but has the telltale little box with the (CN) number on the back (and not an ISBN) (SEE pictures)

Wildside Press themselves published another run of 30 copies in November (?) 1993. The interior leaves are from the Nelson and Doubleday SFBC edition but it is bound in black coated plastic paper with silver lettering and has padded boards (foam under the binding) (SEE picture)

The green signed limited edition

And its signatures

The Nelson and Doubleday SFBC edition (interior pics in an earlier post) - the spine

And the bookclub number on the back

The limited 30 copies black Rescue Run wth the padded boards - front

I was wondering about the other editions of this book...as I have the Green cloth and also the black covered one one that you show above. Both books have the same drawings in them so the different outside look seems to be the only differences, other than the special limited edition, and Anne's signature.

Interesting, although I don't think I'll be going to collect all of them. I was happy getting the copy, I've got.

Is okay, Hans. This sweet thing forgot the title and had a "blonde" moment (only you have "senior" moments, I'll take the "blonde" one and nuff, nuff out of everyone else okay, ).

At least we get to see all the different aspects of one book, dependent on what one has in one's collection, I suppose (covers, artwork etc...). Thanks once again Hans for showing a more extensive collection then my limited amount of "Show offs" (my book collection that is, not my ego ).

I have the SFBC version. I've had it so long I don't remember the particulars of the acquisition but near as I remember, I only "joined" that bookclub to get the Dragonriders trilogy so I'm pretty sure that's where I got Rescue Run also. After making the required number of purchases I canceled my "membership."

I also joined the SFBC...just to be able to get some of the newer books at the time, as at that time we didn't live near any books stores. Now I have ebay, and all the other bookstores on the internet, so don't really need it anymore.

I'm in the same boat, Lady Maelin. If I want decent bookshops, I have to travel over 45 minutes to one place in either direction of where I live or go to Melbourne for it. And so often, I've already got what they have in stock so the internet (ebay, abebooks, LuLu etc) comes in handy for the "hard to get" ones. "Rescue Run" was one such book that I couldn't get anywhere as they all looked at me as if I was a "twit" as they had never heard of it until I asked for it. Although the bookstore east of me is actually starting to get a lot better about what I'm looking for so it's not all bad! That's where I got the "Serve it forth" and a different copy of "An exchange of gifts" books. I was very happy as it was cheaper then getting it on ebay at the time (if you include p&h) from USA. Under Au$35 for 2 new books as opposed to $45-50 (after converting US $ to Aussie $) for 2 second hand books - including p&h. Not bad at all!

R'na, here's a good website for you. Gives a full list of books plus some photos of books. (The only thing it doesn't give you is the different versions e.g. language, covers etc..) Click on "M', scroll down the list until you get to Anne's and Todd's names, click on their names and hey presto......... My bookshop that helps me out occasionally, gave me this website. It's a good starting point for those like yourself who don't know what they're looking for as well as for those like Hans, Cheryl or Becky who want to update lists etc.. Just in case you've accidently missed something perhaps.......
