We had a cat a few years back that use to present us with all kinds of little goodies she'd caught and put them on our front doorstep...birds, squirrels, and once a field mouse that she lovingly brought into the living room instead and dropped at my feet...only problem was it was still alive and started running all over the place, the minute she let it go... trying to get away. The cat was so proud of herself, and didn't quite understand why my husband and I were yelling so much about the wonderful toy she'd brought us to play with...YUCK!!!

I my cat did that to me with a cockroach once. I thought I was going to die.
Of everything living being that exists on this planet, I hate cockroaches the most. They scare the living you - know - what out of me. I'd rather bump into Dracula in a dark alley one night, then get close to one of those.... things..... ![]() |

Don't feel bad. Out here in the country, the cats usually go out and kill mice and rats, then leave them lay. If it's a rat, then Bob wants to play with it. Harry, our other outside dog, goes out and finds things that Bob then brings home. Yesterday alone, I bagged up 2 pieces of deer hide and a dead rat. In years past, before Bob, when Rip was still alive, the boys bought home dead armadillos, along with the occasional oppossum. Now that it's spring, and Bob has been running with Harry, things should get interesting. I forsee a summer of picking up All Things Dead.
Last night, well actually this morning about 4 AM, the dogs started barking and ran up into the woods behind the house. All of a sudden, something replied to their barking. Had to have been a young coyote, seperated from the pack. He didn't bark, he screamed. Or howled at nearly soprano heights, whatever. We've never had one that close to the house before. Quite a sound.

Coyotes can make the strangest sounds! We get them in the back yard sometimes, but mostly they stay in the 30 acres of woods behind us. Another creature that makes odd/scarey sounds is the fisher cat. That can sound like a crying/screeching human baby!

Today we went to see Mike in the production of Street Scene at Western CT state university, where he is a senior. He had a small but very fun part in what turned out to be a rather somber and odd show. Let's just say it was interesting and leave it at that. I liked The Magic Flute much better last year. Anyway, there was one interesting tidbit in the show that I thought people might get a kick out of. There is a little dog that is a small part of the performance. The particular dog they used is a Champion five year old male Tibetan Spaniel. It was very cute. The best part was it's name. Are you ready for this?
C.H. Dragonsong Britwalds Presley P. Phypers (Queenie). What would be the odds that his owner is a fan of Anne's work?! Here's a photo of the little cutie. http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...t=DSCN1404.jpg

Well I am sorry to hear that the show wasn't all that you were hoping for...but at least you were all there to give Mike your support. Cute little dog but he doesn't seem big enough for the H U G E name he has to carry around...and yes I agree, his owner must be a fan of Anne's.

Never heard of a fisher cat until a team in the Eastern league, (A minor league baseball Team) started playing the local team in Altoona, PA. They are the "New hampshire Fisher cats" Go figure, learn something new all the time.

No fisher cats in these parts. We do have bobcats and little red foxes, both of which can make some strange noises in the night.
It is funny the names they hang on purebred animals these days. They do the same thing to horses and cats. When I was a kid my dad brought home a dachshund with a mouthful name but as far as he was concerned his name was Rudy. My grandson who recently turned four was in the wedding of one of his uncles over the weekend. He was the "Ring Bear" and his duty was to escort his five year old cousin who was the flower girl. Well, flower girl froze and Matthew was told to go on up the aisle. He knew cousin was supposed to throw flowers so, as he made his way to the front, he pulled the flower off his lapel and threw it as one of his Aunts! |

BOy howdy Sandi, are you ever right about the sounds fox make at night! When we were living in Putnoe, I was woken by what I thought was a child on the street in distress.... turned out to be a family of fox playing in the middle of the avenue!

There used to be a beautiful (to me) little red fox that would come around at night. It made the most amazing noises but didn't seem to harm anything. I haven't seen it in a long time, though.
I tried to post a picture of Matthew and Stevanie over in the Exhibit Hall section but I think I've forgotten how. |

I absolutely love foxes! I think they are very misunderstood animals. I HATE that they are considered vermin (not sure about elsewhere, but here they are). They are what they are - they can't help it.

This is what Google has listed for a *Fisher Cat*...and according to Wikapedia, it seems to be considered part of the weasel family...with quite nasty fang type teeth...

Thats because otters are part of the weasel family too.
![]() Actually they are from the family known as Mustelids (Mustelidae), which includes weasels, stoats, minks, skunks, otters and ferrets (both wild and domestic). These are animals that have scent glands. I used to have pet ferrets, so I know a little about the family. Ferrets are very misunderstood animals. Domestic ferrets are fairly different to their wild cousins. A domestic ferret for one thing is a lot smaller then the wild ones, and contrary to popular belief, domestic ferrets cannot survive in the wild. Sorry, even though I don't actually have ferrets anymore, I can't resist the opportunity to tell people about them. They truly are misunderstood animals. They actually make really wonderful, affectionate pets - but they do require a lot of care, and are probably not for everyone. Since they are Mustelids, they can be a little bit smelly.... ![]() But they rock! ![]() |

As explained in Wikipedia, that last animal is a fisher, a member of the family containing martens, weasels, and so on. It is sometimes erroneously called a fisher cat. It's native to North America.
The first animal pictured it a Fishing Cat, native to Asia.

I was wrong, the cat is a fishing cat not fisher cat.
According to the National Zoo website the females are about 15 pounds and the males can get up to 25 pounds. Here is a link to their website http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/As.../factsheet.cfm

Yesterday was a blustery day in my region. Just in the county I live in there were four tornadoes reported over a period of hours. I feel like I'm living under some sort of umbrella. Not far away in all directions there was damage and destruction and, unfortunately, even death but right here in the little spot where I am there was only heavy rain and some wind.

Just spent the last week running to wakes and funerals and am trying to find a good home for two very sweet cats (Their human mom was one of the people who passed on this past week) Nick's car is at the transmission shop. Which meant he took mine to work on Friday, and will take it again Monday. And he missed out on NEETH today, because I will NOT let him take my vehicle that far. Meriah and I went to PINS FOR PETS last night...a fundraiser for PET CONNECTION. That was the highlight of the week

Kat, your daughter is a beautiful young lady.
Every time I mention that Kibby is going to be 16 this year Hubby tell me to shut up. He is trying to denine that his little girl is not so little anymore. She is taller than I am. I hope all who got slammed with storms this past week are safe. North Caralina got the worst of it I think. More deaths there than anywhere else.
