Default Quick Florida report

My family is on a trip to Florida this week, sharing a condo with my parents, like we did last year. We're having a fun and relaxing time, going to the beach in the mornings and swimming in the pool after dinner (afternoons are for staying in out of the heat and napping).

I've been surprised by the amount of wildlife we've seen this year. Sure there's the little lizards that are everwhere, and the herons and pelicans and crabs down on the beach. Those we saw last year so not unexpected. But this year I've seen a ray (nearly stepped on it in the shallows before it sped off), had a crab nip at my toes in the shallows, and watched a small pod of dolphins swim past in the ocean.

We are back home, now to catch up on MoM, and then work through the 1700+ photos we took and get them uploaded.

Can't wait to see some of your new vacation photos...especially those having to do with the beach...you know me, I love the ocean. If I remember rightly though you did some incredible *Bug* photos last year...so I will be eager to see anything you care to share.

P.S. Glad to hear that you back safe and sound...

New Symrna Beach, which is just south of Daytona and north of Cape Canaveral. I definitely would recommend it, it's not an over-popular destination. The beach there is a very long narrow strip which means plenty of room for beach-goers to spread out rather than being on top of each other. We got there around 9 every morning and had lots of space all to ourselves until other people slowly starting waking up and arriving.

We drove on New Smyrna beach when we were in Florida after our cruise in March! Compared to Daytona Beach, I wouldn't call it narrow......... but you're certainly right about it not being very crowded. Nice place.

Welcome back to MoM!

It can be pretty narrow, at least where we were, especially at high tide. I think it stays uncrowded because along much of the length there isn't public parking, so the people there are just those staying at hotels/condos right along the beach.

Yeah, you can get stuck there if your car is on the sand when the tide comes in. The bottom of the ramp gets covered pretty quick, according to my wife's cousin. She lives in Deltona (not Daytona), and is the one who took us over there.

Cheryl...it sure sounds like a lovely beach. Did you and the twins get to go swimming in the ocean while you were there? Do the kids like the ocean or are they afraid of it...we can hardly keep our out of the water long enough to eat dry food...

They play in the shallows, and are occasionally willing to be held in deeper water to rise and fall with the swells.

They did a lot more swimming in the condo pool this year, having had their first set of swim lessons a couple months ago, and made progress by leaps and bounds.

Picture editing for posting is in progress... I'm perhaps a third of the way through picking which photos will go online.

Hi Cheryl

Sounds wonderful! Wish I could be there to see the dolphins. I've always looked for them of the coast of Devon/Cornwall but with no luck. We love Florida & will go back when the kids are older.
