Default The Whales are going to lose the Vote

looks like Japan has another [inland]Country for it;s Vote I don't know if it's
Money or to save face,,doesn't look hopeful for the Whales
Bats was at Trail-Bay Look-Out and it was King Tide looked down and there
a Whale watching me,,he raised his flipper and turned over then went back
and looked at me by then a crowd had gather so it showed off more it was
a sight,,THEN these Drongos below threw stones at him off he went
you can image the abuse they got..always someone to spoil things,,but
it was a sight to see.

I'd love to see a sight like that. Why do some fool idiots have to ruin it for others? :P

I've been afraid of this happening ever since I heard about Japan pressuring small island nations to join them....

I heard about this on the news. Makes me think why, if people are trying to save the whales!

Because the Japanese are only trying to save the whales for a snack later. They eat whale meat, have for many, many years. They want to be able to keep doing this. The Norwegians feel much the same way. And in some Pacific Northwest cultures, hunting and killing a whale is a sacred act in additino to a food-gathering act.

I'd rather have the Hindi way and not kill the sacred animal...

Thanks for the info Anareth. I hope the whales survive this. I love whale watching.

If you're hungry and winter is six months long, that whale starts to look pretty good and the Hindi start to look pretty stupid.

When it comes to things like that, I try not to judge so long as we're not talking about religious traditions involving things like female genital mutilation, where it's actual people being hurt.

Fair point, but when the Norwegians stopped killing whales half-way through their self-given "quota" in the last season because the meat was piling up in the warehouses as the supermarkets were unable to sell it, then that theory also tends to not hold water...

I was referring to the traditional whaling done by Pac. Northwest first nations peoples.

I've actually eaten bowfin whale blubber someone brought back from an athropology fieldwork trip. It was all right, I suppose. But then most fat tastes good.

Sounds like a great experience, Bats! At least up until those idiots shattered the moment. Makes me want to throw stones at THEM and see how THEY like it.

I have yet to have such an encounter. The last (and only) time I've seen any of those remarkable, almost legendary, creatures was in a Marine Park way back before I developed an appreciation for them.
