Default I got freeby first editions

Well sort of.

Years ago (late 50s) my mother was commisioned, by Carey Kingsgate Press in London, to do a series of background books for Sundayschool teachers.

I was googling around a couple of evenings ago and found a batch of them up for sale in the US @ $60 EACH!

And I have mother's 'author's set' sitting on my shelves.

I never really thought I'd find them up for sale as they'd have such a limited appeal.

I felt the same way when my mum gave me 3 1st editions by Mary Grant Bruce (which are hard to come by) for my birthday several years ago so now you'll have to keep us updated as to whether they sell or not. The ones on ebay, I mean, not the ones on your shelf.

Special indeed P'ter. In the time when I was young and attending sunday school we always got one or two books a year adn sometimes books as prizes, books with a christian subject or story of course. It has been a custom in my country for a long time. Anyway, those little, cheap books (usually thin too) are very much collectors items nowadays I've got a whole stack of them! I was a great little Christian Reformed youngster before I turned heretic

Sounds like true treasures, P'ter. Surely you're not thinking of selling them!

Peter...its just wonderful that you were able to find these little family treasures. It will be lovely held for when your Grand children are adults and can cherish them as much as you do.

Sandi: they're in the family archive/museum (of which I'm curator).

They were semi-fictional. A day-in-the-life of a made-up character in a real life situation; say a young boy in a village in Bangaldesh, or a girl in a small town in Jamaica. The geography, climate and social set-up were reseached and correct. I remember her talking to an airline pilot about flying into Kingston, Jamaica so that that part was 'real'. There'd be a hand full of such 'episodes' in each title, so that that the teachers could get their facts straight.
