English author now deceased.
Incredible historical novels, primarily about India.
Shadow of the Moon, my favorite about the Indian Mutiny. (As good or better then any E.M Forster novel)
The Far Pavillions (made into a movie, not a bad effert).
Trade Winds about Madagascar. The books are about 3 inches thick, lots of characters, lots of background lots of history.

Later she wrote about 6 mystery 'who-dun-it' and they were very decent.

Somewhat like Mary Stewart she traveled with her husband and lived in those places and absolutely loved it. They were contemporaries, wonder if they knew each other.

My mother loved her books but I never got around to reading them. My sister has them all now and I think she likes them too.

It's 'The Far Pavillions' that I've read and really enjoyed, now that I know some Titles I'll keep my eye out for them, 'Trade Winds' is the one that is really interesting and I'm going to order it as the local bookshop has'nt got it
More Pennies invested in books!
