Default Books you couldn't put down!

First off, I had my eyes superglued to books like Watership Down and the HP books. And I read Animal Farm for like six hours straight when I had homework to do. I ended up finally finishing the hw at like two am because I was spending my time reading. Any books you were superglued to?

I remember that I was super-glued to the Harper Hall books when I read them a year ago. I kept each book (in turn) on my desk or in my hand at school and opened up to read at any opportunity I got.

Then, a month later, I read Nor Crystal Tears by Alan Dean Foster. That one was also hard to put down.

Oh, and I loved Phantom Tollbooth. Very clever book. My math teacher always has to tell me to put my book away. My other teachers are used to it by now.

That used to be every book I picked up!

Lately, it's been harder...a book needs to be good to hold my attention otherwise I'll just skim it, or put it down entirly.

The best were ALL of Anne's books, most of the Eddingses books except "The Dreamers", the "Mars Trilogy" by Kim Stanley Robertson and "The Golden Witchbreed" by Mary Gentle.

I'm that kind of person, too. If a book isn't good, I lose interest in it, and put it down even if I am twenty pages from the end.

But I loved a lot of books!!! Especially Dragonsdawn (great characters), Watership Down (Excellent plot) and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH (A little bit of both).

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone" (There, everyone happy?) I had resisted reading it for literally years and finally picked it up one day, and finished it in about four hours and ran out and bought the next two.

I read them because my sister did was impressed with 1,2 and 3 but not 4 or 5. I'm waiting to see if 6 is shorter than 4 or 5 before I even THINK of reading it!

I've read them-all but the latest 2. They're good but there are tons of errors and I got fed up with the big time jumps! he misses so much potential by only using characters briefly!

Let's see: the HP books especially 2 4 and 5, all three of the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, Silver on the Tree by Susan Cooper (I love that whole series but I read that one in one night), Watership Down (fabulous book!) and of course the Pern books especially Dragonsong.

I found Dragon Companion by Don Callander very hard to put down. A very nice concept. I was left longing for the next two books, which, of course, I'm having trouble finding...

Also, Decision at Doona and The Gentle Dragon by Joseph K. Coates, which I'm reading right now.

Aw, loved Watership Down. And Harry Potter 6. Finished that one in two days straight. Actually, all of the HP books have been imposssible to put down for me. When Goblet of Fire came out, my mom actually had to take the book away from me so I could sleep.
And lately, I've been reading Damia's Children nearly non-stop.

Elizabeth Moon's The Deed of Paksenarrion which is an omnibus of three continuous books, a true epic and one that I can't read very often because I get so emotionally involved in it.

Most recently, Moon's Marque and Reprisal. I almost forgot that I wanted to watch that Saturday's Stargate: SG-1 episode. And then when it was done I was alternately reading and doing stuff online. Even read some more til I was falling asleep, somewhere around 1am.

All of this despite the fact that family visited somewhere in there... Was finished by Monday, I think. In contrast, the book I'm reading now, which is only 4 pages shorter, has already taken me four days to get more than halfway through.

Nowadays I'm enjoying the heavy hard core sci fi b/c once in a while you HAVE to put it down, yet I still yearn for more. The books that you just get swept into and can't put down are difficult to manage in my lifestyle. I even now have gotten into re reading books at bedtime just to make sure something doesn't engross me at night and keep me up way past my bedtime.

There have been many books throughout my life that kept me up way to late and made me yearn for more after I finished them... some of the recent ones are Rainscape by Jaye Roycraft and Time of the Wolf by Julie D'Arcy.

A new (to me) mystery series by Carole Nelson Douglas - mysteries partly narrated by Midnight Louie, Las Vegas feline!

First five in the series:
Catnap
Pussyfoot
Cat on a Blue Monday
Cat in a Crimson Haze
Cat in a Diamond Dazzle

The most recent one I couldn't put down was Shadow of the Hegemon. Several groups of super genious kids are in a massive military, political, and illteligence battle to control the world. So cool.

I liked A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels both by Libba Bray, and The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper. Of course i like a bunch of other books, but it would take way too long to name them all!

As a fan of Jean M. Auel's Earth Children series (Clan of the Cave Bear, Valley of the Horses etc.) I really enjoyed her most recent installment "Shelters of Stone". It was just a real pain to have to wait 10 years to read it!! It was worth the wait.

I also couldn't put down any of the books from L.E. Modesitt Jr's Spellsong Cycle. I have to admit that I was originally attracted to "The Soprano Soceress" because of the cover art. I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but if I hadn't done that....then I would never have discovered Anne McCaffrey's works. I was drawn to "Dragonsong" for the same reason!
