Default A Slight change in direction

I've been doing cross stitch for about 25 years and never thought I'd try anything else. About a year ago I got tired of making cross stitch Christmas ornaments and then having to figure out how to finish them off. I found a set of needlepoint ornaments in a catalog that are easy to finish off, just glue or sew that back to the front and you're done. I tried one and enjoyed it. However, needlepoint kits are quite a bit more expensive than cross stitch. So, I decided to buy some "blank" items and see if I could put a pattern on them and sew them up. You can get a coin purse, glasses case, cosmetic case or e-book case. I've made a coin purse with Winnie the Pooh on it (which I carry my cell phone in), a glasses case for my son's girlfriend and an e-book case that I need to find a home for. Here's pictures!

Thanks. I haven't given up cross stitch. I'm also doing a table cloth for the diningroom table but the floral pattern is repetitive so I do a bit and then a small needlepoint and then back again. I hope I never decide to do anything this big again!

I know exactly what you mean with big cross stitch project, seen that happen in my family often :-) The cats are cute!

I'll see if I can make some photos of a few of my wife's projects.

Love to see them!

Also, there are a couple layers to the story behind the cats. Both Fred and Eliza like Japanese anime, so I looked for cats that reminded me of that. Then, the green and white cat is meant to "be" Eliza because those are the colors of Sandy Hook Elementary School and Eliza is the education reporter for the Newtown newspaper. The orange cat is Fred, partly because orange is one of his favorite colors but also because he got his bachelor's and master's degrees from Syracuse University - Syracuse Orange!

Thanks, mawra and ginny. At another site I belong to we had a discussion about whether we would be remembered or would even want to be after we are gone. I think photograhs are one way we remember people (as long as they are labeled) and letters are another. One way for me is my sewing. As long as someone remembers me I guess they will think of me when they look at something I made. No, it really doesn't matter and of course then it brings up the whole "life after death" question (which won't go into), it just makes me feel good Here and Now.

I must admit I like the fact that the books and articles (genealogy/history) I published will effectively make me virtually immortal as they probably will be available in national libraries and with the LDS church for ages
