Default Recent Books Sale Treasures...

At a recent book sale at our local library, a lovely old gentleman donated a large amount of older
Sci-Fi paperbacks...and I was the one that found them...all for a dollar a bag. You just can't
beat that

Today we went to San Diego, to another larger library sale and found
several very S U P R I S I N G treasures...

...like this lovely leather bound edition of some original favorites...

...a very beautiful art book about flowers...

...a pair of Rockwell books to add to my growing collection of his books...
.

...a beautifully illustrated book on birds, along with a book from the
wonderful Dutch artist Rien Poortvliet, to go with one that Hans
sent me a couple of years ago...

...a few Asimov's I've been hoping to find...

a few McCaffrey surprises...one that is very special indeed...

...this wonderful *Polish* edition of *The Ship WHo Sang*that my
loving husband happened to find...

as well as these two very lucky finds... I already had them, but
you just can't have too many of Anne's books now can you...

These last two are for a very special Terry Pratchett fan...one thats also
a very dear friend...HS...

...unless you don't want these two Cilla...??

I know my sight isn't what it was but I can still read it, outside of when a key is the same range of color

finds and the find of the Ship Who Sang, by your hubby!

Oh my dear friend! You are so sweet to think of me, but unfortunately I already have both books. (Well, you DO know what it's like to be a collector. . . ) Perhaps there is someone else who doesn't have them who could give them a loving home?! Thank you SOOOO much for thinking of me. It is wonderful to go to book sales and not only look for ourselves but have others "needs" in mind as well!

Oh my Lord... What a treasure!

Rien Poortvliet's "Gnomes"! So I don't have to send you that
and
Anne McCaffrey in Polish! Pratchett. Wells... Oh oh, consider me duly jealous. Erm... very jealous. And the whole batch of paperbacks. Wonderful. If you never read the Many Coloured Land by May I think you will enjoy that and there are many in that batch I have but I would consider that a mega good find for the price!

And Rockwell. I have been searching for him here but on bookmarkets and fairs, no luck. And the books on painting nature (flowers?) looks wonderful and will fluel your imagination just as much as real life does, I bet.

What a fantastic haul, my friend. And having discovered all that during pleasurable trips wth your most loved one mst make this all very, very special!

Ginny...sorry I'm not selling any of these books....but there are several *Pern Atlas* for sale on ebay for very good prices.

Cilla...well when I saw them I just thought of you and grabbed them...the art work is guite wonderful in both books so I might just keep them for my own collection, since you already have them. The Last Hero isn't in too great of condition anyways...I didn't look at it that close...I just grabbed it.

Samsara...that H.G.Wells is a very lovely book...one of those padded leather ones, that someone originally bought just to look good on their library shelf...but for me it has three of my most favorite original Well's Sci-Fi's from when I was a girl growing up...can't wait to re-read them.

Hans...Oh my friend we certainly thought of you while we were driving to the book sale, knowing how very much you would have enjoyed being there with us...as well as being in San Diego again....!!
The Gnomes are now sitting next to my other incredibly beautiful book of Rien's that you gifted me...I love having them both, as you know how much I enjoy his artwork.

Sandi...I have been so lucky lately with books and goodies to add to my collections...I yelled out with excited glee, when Martin showed me the Ship Who Sang book he'd found for me...a young man who was standing next to me when Martin brought it over to show me, started laughing saying he wished that he could find a book there that would excite him that much as this did me. What can I say I love my McCaffrey books....even ones that I can't read, because there in Polish!!!

Maw, as I told Ginny above... there are several for sale on ebay, at very nice prices.

I have seen the "Gnomes" book before but I didn't know that you wanted a copy of it, otherwise I would have brought and pm'ed you about it. Oh well, no matter.... However you've found a great haul of books and plenty of reading matter to go with it so WELL DONE, Lady Maelin

Haven't seen that cover on "Atlas" before, I have a different copy to that one. Now that could be a "Collector's Highlight" in itself.

Jube, that is the (original) American Atalas of Pern cover. You probably have the UK edition that has the wonderful Steve Weston art wit a dragon overflying (the Gulf of) Nerat.

You lucky girl! That's a very nice find!
I once had the chance to stumble upon a sale in our local bookstore. They didn't have that much SF, but had many other books I had been hearing about, and the price was soooo low. We went with our hands full of bags, and even had to ask them if they can save a couple of other books so my dad could collect them later, as mum and I didn't have the car, and it was to far to walk.

Talisath...my husband and I go to a lot of library sales in the town around us...and have found several wonderful deals.
Once I even won a small pile of signed 1st editions of *Stitch in Snow*at a university book sale...that was an incredibly lucky day for me.
It's not that common even here to find that much of the older Sci-Fi either... especially at library sales.

With some help from you user/sellers/buyer of E-Bay, and my extra money looking for a way to expand our own collections. @ Maw perhaps we can work to together on getting hold of what we are looking for!

That sound like the box of books for a bag of rubarb, which is true story, and I do to get the rest of the collection from my dad's place.

It was dear friend, it was. It is my hope that I'll be able to repay you for your kindness and hospitality one day by taking you to museums and artwork I know you will drool over. Between us Martin and I will keep your "touching fingers" in check

Even the thought of those days makes me smile and happy!
