Last week we had a bomb scare here too. The Victoria University campus at the railway station was evacuated, the bus station connected to it closed along with the tunnel that runs underneath the campus connecting the bus station with the railway station. At one stage the whole Government buildings end of the CBD was closed off. No bomb was found.

I assume so, Rutherford House is still there and the railway station was open for business by the time it was rush hour. But it's still a pain having to bail out of a Uni because of alarms as P'ter's post suggests, even without exam stress as well.

When I was at Wintec (Hamilton) doing computer courses our fire alarm sounded exactly the same as a nearby shopping mall. We lost count of the number of times we had to bail out because the mall had gone off. And every time somebody had to check that it was the mall and not the Polytech.

Kibby and I went to Ravencon a couple of weeks ago.
Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon was there. We took a bunch of books to get signed and bought books in the mthe dearler room. So many books.

Kibby made the mistake of going to art room while Larry dixon was there. She had to buy sime if his work.

We made it to every event they had. Had lots of fun.

Cheesecake made with caramel in it, chocolate syrup drizzled over the top, sprinkled with coarsely chopped (if not mostly whole) pecans.

Sort of like the turtle candies, only cheesecake.

Rich? Definitely! Best served in small slices to try to prevent going into sugar overload.

This is NOT a no-bake abomination. I only want real, honest baked cheesecake.

LOL

But she's made other cheesecake for me, as well as some as some other goodies. So I won't complain, just point out that we haven't had chocolate turtle cheesecake for quite a while...... actually, it's probably at least in part due to the high cost of the pecans that we've been eating on and in other things, like banana bread, and my personal favorite, butter roasted and salted pecans.

She's so good to me.

Most of my misreadings seem to involve food. On our way to our usual camp site we pass road signs to a place called "Cold Slad". I tend to misread it as "Cold Salad". My daughter reads it as "Coleslaw"!

Here's a link to a picture of s "Christstollen" from Dresden. We Dutch call this simply a "stol" and don't see it as pastry but as a form of bread. Like the Germans we do have special versions, like the Christmas stol. There are many regional varieties (as there are in Germany too).

Cheesecake is also the term for a certain type of photogragh!

This week we've opened the new University Sports Centre and I've been teaching in the new (50metre) pool, which has a moveable divider so that it can be used as two 25metre pools also. Generally it's 2m deep, but one end has a hydraulic floor so that when we have it divided, we can have a teaching pool at anything from 0.9m on down.

Girly photos. Back in the '30s & '40s, usually showing a lot of leg and cleavage.

The Term cheesecake for a " Pin up girl " must have been a fad and fallen out of use, At least I have never heard of it prior to this. I have heard my young teen nieces refer to boys they like as " Beefcakes ". The same yet opposite as the Cheesecake for the women in the pin up pics of women mentioned here I would think.

Oh, it's quite acceptable for the female of the species to use such terms. But a male uses anything like "cheesecake", and that's being sexist, objectifying women, and on and on, ad nauseum.

Default Re: What is happening

I had just locked up my telxon and printer in preparation to clock out for the day this evening when our store was either struck by or caught the backlash from a very close lightning strike. And it was close as you heard the unmistakable boom/crack of a less then fifty foot away strike. What was funny is I stood there unfazed and everyone around me was freaking out as the lights flickered and partially went out.
