Ben Adjei first brought Genocide out into the open on Doona. If you were in the same situation would you be able to seriously entertain the idea or even carry it out to protect your childrens and your own future?

I think I may be barbarian enough to do anything to save the lives of my kin.

Not in the circumstances from the book. As abhorrent as returning to earth woud be, slaughter of an intelligent and friendly species is more so.

No. If there is the possibility that we may be able to work together and create a productive society. It would be hard work but it would be worth it in the end.

I don't like genocide. And so far, I haven;t come across anything bar the Borg than makes me even come close to changing my mind on that....

and technically, wiping out the Borg wouldn't be genocide, since it is made up of races from all over.

Indeed, one might be able to classify the Borg as being a disease since inorder to become Borg, you have to be "infected" by their nanobots--& don't forget the Borg are guilty of "genocide" since what they don't bother to absorb into their collective gets destroyed. Wiping out the Borg would also quallify as engaging in self-preservation and the preservation of other life.

If a conflict gets to the point where genocide is ever seriously considered, you've already lost. Either you get wiped out, dying either nobly in sacrifice or fighting to the bitter end, or you overcome your enemy at the cost of becoming worse than they were in the first place.

Both humans and Hrubbans had already inadvertantly crossed that bridge though, with the scars on their societies to prove it. The question was whether to compound the error, with foreknowledge of the consequences, or to make the great leap and heal the rift. The problem was that whilst the former was abhorrent, it was a hell of a lot easier than the latter, which they had no idea whether they'd be capable of or not. Particularly since they didn't realise how technologically advanced the Hrubbans were at the outset, and a swift elimination of an agrarian society, known only to a few, would spare wider humanity the greater dilemma...

If our lives were being threatened, genocide would be the absolute last option on my list.

But, in respect to the honest nature of the Hrrubans, such an action would be downright inhuman.
